What do you see when you look at the Elodea?
Are the "bricks" empty?
The boxes or "bricks" that you see in the Elodea leaf are cells. Cells are the units from which the Elodea leaf is made. The cells are too small to be seen with the naked eye, but they can be seen clearly with the microscope.

We learned during the Field of
View lab, that at high power
0.4mm
(400X), the diameter of the
field of view measures 0.4mm.
0.4mm
About 4 Elodea cells fit across
the FOV. Since 0.4 ÷4 is 0.1,
each cell is about 0.1mm.
