Inmates as disciplers One of the beautiful things about jail ministry is when new believers begin to share with their fellow inmates. Yesterday after a Bible study in which several unbelievers showed great interest, two of the inmates who are growing invited the others back after lunch to continue talking. A..... has only been a believer since January, but his enthusiasm and understanding of Scripture is inspiring. G.... has been a believer longer. Both feel called to reach out to the other inmates. They are working with a number of men using the different Volumes of New Life in Christ. Sometimes they put a little sign up on the table where they study which says: “Ask us if you need prayer.” In another dorm S.... is doing the same. He has finished all of the New Life in Christ books. After the Bible study in their dorm I often spend time with them one-on-one to answer some of the many questions they have. Almost every week inmates accept the Lord. Yesterday a young woman the Holy Spirit had prepared prayed with Barb. New Materials Spanish Volume 5 We are excited that the latest volume of New Life in Christ will soon be up on our website. We are just awaiting those who are helping us with some proof reading. Like the previous volume it attempts to give biblical answers to common lies. Several of the topics like machismo and the teaching of the prosperity gospel are doing great damage in Latin America so the need for biblical answers is urgent. Russian Volume 2 A friend in Moldova has been using Volume 1 for years with good results and felt the need to translate the remaining volumes into Russian. He sends me the translations and I format them for publication. It too will be up on the website as soon as he sends me the final corrections. Our Mission is to produce and empower committed followers of Jesus Christ in Spanish-speaking areas to reach the world Please Pray • For the inmates who seek to disciple other inmates. • For the growth of each of the new believers at the jail. • For our son Paul who has been experiencing back problems from the surgery he had many years ago to correct a curved spine. He has been unable to do any significant work. • For Barb who bruised some ribs in a fall from a bike. • For the youth leaders in training at our local church. Catalán Volume 1 A while ago we got a note from a pastor in Barcelona asking if he could translate the material into Catalán which is the heart language of that part of Spain. So far the first 8 lessons are translated and formatted. Special need All of these translations are being done voluntarily at the initiative of the believers in these countries who see the need for good discipleship materials in their heart language. We have had requests for translations into other languages but would have to pay a translator: Bambará for Mali, Africa ($360) and Malagasi for Madagascar ($162). That’s not much considering the impact it will have. Additionally we need about $600 for the drawings for each new volume I write. Donations may be sent to Camino Global, designated for the following project: “New Life in Christ-065116.” Thank you for sharing in this ministry of discipleship. • For our Hispanic youth to finish the school year well; to apply themselves to study and prepare for the future God has for them. Pray that they experience God’s love and grace through personal study of His Word.
