Reading Analysis Activity for Diary of Anne Frank
Reading Analysis Activities
Two Double Entry Journals: Select six important passages from each novel. Each passage
should come from a different chapter. These passages should be a comprehensive
representation of each book. For Example, you may select Chapters 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25.
 Using a sheet of lined paper, draw a line down the middle. On the left side of the paper,
quote an important scene or passage, including the page number.
 On the right side, write down your response to the quote. Explain why you felt it
created an impact, and what you think will happen next. Also include a personal
connection to the quote: how you can relate to it, in regards to the theme, character or
setting.
 Your response to the quote must be at least three paragraphs long.
Two Character Analyses
Select a main character from each book, and complete a three paragraph analysis of each.
Focus on the background of the character, the significant actions taken by he or she and the
way other characters in the book perceive them.
Two Illustration Activities
For each book, create an artistic cover page for your reading analysis activities. Your cover
page can be a hand drawn work of art, a collage, or a computer generated one. Any format you
chose must be done by you and it must capture the main idea and or theme of the book. You
may not simply copy or trace the book covers that already exist. Include the Title of the Book
and your name on the cover. On the back, include a one-paragraph explanation of how this
cover displays the theme or main idea.
