organizations at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (TUSPM) and how you can join
as members. You will have the chance to meet some of the club officers during the Activity Fair
during your orientation.

American Association for Women Podiatrists (AAWP)
MISSION: AAWP is a national organization that helps
provide a supportive information source to women
that will allow them to succeed in Podiatry while
helping them to overcome the challenge specific to
life as a professional woman. This club provides
leaderships in the advancement of the educational,
political, financial, social, and emotional well-being
of our members. We help raise money for charitable
organizations, host social activities like salsa dancing
classes and hold guest lectures on such topics as
practice management, treatment protocols, and

American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine (ACFAOM)
MISSION: Our student chapter of the ACFAOM
works to emphasize the importance of
orthopedics and medicine in the contemporary
practice of podiatry. As surgery will account for a
small fraction of a podiatrists’ total practice, our
club’s goal is to introduce important
biomechanical and medical principals to aid
students’ in their future career. As a member of
this club, you will be exposed to guest speakers,
workshops, and journal clubs relevant to the field.
MEMBERSHIP DUES: $10 for the year OR $30 for 4 years.

American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeon (ACFAS)
MISSION:
 Add to the basic knowledge taught at
the podiatric schools by exposing
students to more specific surgical
techniques.
 Giving students an introduction on what
they can do to prepare themselves to
seek a residency position.
 Providing students access to the foot
and ankle surgical community by
bringing in ACFAS members to speak at
the clubs about surgical techniques, and
exposing them to the life of a foot and
ankle surgeon.

American Public Health Association (APHA)
MISSION: The primary goal of APHA-TUSPM is to educate podiatric
medical students and the community on public health issues relating
to our profession. This will be accomplished with an emphasis on
research and educational seminars provided by clinicians,
researchers and students.

Biomechanics and Orthotics Club (BMOC)
MISSION: The purpose of this club is to
strengthen members’ understanding of
the biomechanical principles of gait and
the treatment of abnormalities through
hands-on workshops. Methods of study
include orthosis creation, modification,
and prescription, biomechanics
research, and conservative treatments
for biomechanical and lower extremity
pathologies.

Christian Podiatric Student Association (CPSA)
MISSION: CPSA exists to glorify God by motivating,
educating and equipping podiatric students through
Bible studies and meetings. We share Jesus’ love in
our community by volunteering at a Philadelphia
healthcare clinic for the homeless.

Community Service Club
MISSION: We strive to make a positive difference in the
community and in the lives of others. We are committed to
helping and serving those in need through worthwhile
community service projects.

Dermatology Club
MISSION: We strive to broaden the field of podiatric
medicine through the study of dermatology. We hold
informative lectures, workshops like learning how to
perform skin grafts, and foster student involvement so
that we may increase awareness regarding normal and
pathologic skin and nail conditions.

MISSION: Experience in areas such as cultural competency,

Jewish Podiatric Medical Student Association (JPMSA)
MISSION: Our purpose is bringing
together Jewish individuals and those
who are interested in Judaism through

Journal Society
MISSION: The primary goal of the TUSPM Journal Society
(TUSPMJS) is to expand the knowledge and exposure of its
members to the field of Podiatric Medicine. TUSPMJS will
utilize all available resources: including past and current
journal articles, faculty, guest speakers, residents, and its
own student members to achieve this goal. Staying up to
date with current research and procedures makes for wellrounded health professionals and only furthers the quality of
care available to our patient pool.

Medical Spanish Club (MSC)
MISSION: Medical Spanish Club strives to prepare
each of its members to properly communicate
with Spanish speaking patients both here at
Temple, and in their future practice. Our tutors
are able to help a wide range of speakers, whether
it's your first time or you are a fluent speaker.

MISSION: MSA strives to make

Pediatrics Club (ACFAP)
MISSION: The TUSPM Student Chapter of American College of Foot & Ankle Pediatrics strives to
develop education and awareness about the subspecialty of podo-pediatrics and all that it has
to offer. Students will be able to cultivate a better understanding of current-trends and issues
in pediatric healthcare. This will be accomplished through lecturers, journal meetings, activities,
and fundraising. While participating in these activities, club members will not only be able to
gain knowledge about the field of pediatrics, but will hopefully be able to share this knowledge
and enthusiasm with others.

Practice Management Club (PMC)
MISSION: To positively change the lives,

TUSPM Radiology Club
MISSION:
 A student chapter of the American Society of Radiologists. The goal of the club is to present
pathologic and trauma states in the clinical setting of commonly presenting radiographic
features. This is to be an adjunct to the lectures and information disseminated in the second
year radiology class and gives more of a clinical feeling to this information. Case studies,
group discussion, and review of roentgenographs, CT scans, and MRI studies are used to
augment the discussions.
 Presentations by outside speakers and faculty are
primarily encouraged to cover topics not stressed,
if any, in the second-year radiology course. It will
also work as good review of basic diagnostic skills
leading up to 3rd and 4th year rotations.
 Presentations by student members are also
encouraged, as the ensuing externship and
residency years will require such presentations.

Running Club
MISSION: The purpose of the TUSPM Running Club is to form a solid foundation on the basics of
running and walking through readings and lectures by guest speakers. Our goal is to educate
and expose our members to various health-related running
issues so that they can become leading Podiatric physicians
in issues pertaining to this sport/activity. Our bi-monthly
group runs will be posted so that all members will have the
opportunity to participate. These group runs will form a
community of medical students, medical residents, and
doctors to run together while promoting safety and running
development. Group runs are typically three to four miles
and all paces are welcome. There are no prerequisites,
except the desire to learn medical devices, treatments,
techniques, training/coaching, and equipment related to
running and walking. There are no membership dues. If you

SPECTRUM: TUSPM’S LGBTQ-Ally Club
MISSION: Spectrum is an inclusive organization created to provide a welcoming environment
for students, faculty, and administration of all sexual orientations and genders at TUSPM. We
provide educational resources and professional networking to members. Through seminars and
group meetings, Spectrum looks to educate other students and members about LGBTQ issues
and concerns in the health field and community.
We host monthly lunch meetings and small group
member meetings. Members will have access to
suturing and hardware workshops directed by our club
advisor. Outside of school, the club hosts group
outings and socials with the other medical schools in
Philadelphia.

Sports Medicine Club
MISSION: To provide students with the basic
understanding of sports injury and prepare them
for the care and treatment of sports injuries. The
topics for meetings include biomechanics,
orthotics, primary podiatric care, physical therapy,
and traumatology.

Students for Integrative Medicine (SIM)
MISSION: To foster a holistic approach to medicine
through expanding knowledge in alternative fields of
healthcare and treatments, with emphasis on not simply
treating the disease but the whole person.

Student National Podiatric Medical Association (SNPMA)
MISSION: SNPMA is the student division of the National
Podiatric Medical Association. Every Podiatric Medical
School has a SNPMA organization. Being a part of SNPMA
gives you access to endless resources that are beneficial to
your career.
You will have access to monthly meetings with prestigious
doctors and residency directors, free lunch, national
membership, coat pins for your suits and white coats, and
much more.

Wound Care Club (APWH Student Chapter & SALSAL Contributor)
MISSION: Our mission is to educate and provide hands on
learning in the art of wound care on the lower extremity.
We aim to give students clinical skills and knowledge that
can be used to treat patients to the best of their abilities
and become up to date with wound care modalities. We
also provide opportunities to give back to the community
with diabetes education and awareness in order to save
limbs from becoming amputated.
