This document provides detailed instructions for installing MODFLOW-SURFACT on your computer. The

Installing from a CD-ROM
Please follow the steps below to install MODFLOW-SURFACT from the CD-ROM.
1. Close all other Windows applications.
2. Insert the MODFLOW-SURFACT CD into your CD-ROM
3. This will initiate the application navigator. If the navigator does not start after one minute, explore the CDROM drive and double click on Install32.exe.
4. To begin installing MODFLOW-SURFACT to your hard disk, click on:

5. For stand-alone installations, please proceed with the installation. For network installations, please scroll
ahead to the end of this installation guide.
6. The MODFLOW-SURFACT Welcome window will appear. Click on [Next] to continue.
7. The next window will prompt you to enter your name, company name, and serial number. Use all upper case
letters and hyphens for the serial number. When all fields have been entered, click on [Next].
8. Your serial number will be verified. If you have entered an invalid or incorrect serial number, you will be
prompted to go back and re-enter the serial number. If you have successfully entered the serial number, the
following confirmation window will appear. Click on [Next] to continue.
9. Locate and define the directory on your computer where you wish to install MODFLOW-SURFACT. The
default directory is C:\VMODNT. Click on [Next] when you have chosen the appropriate directory.
NOTE: If you are running MODFLOW-SURFACT in conjunction with Visual MODFLOW 3.1, please ensure
that you install MODFLOW-SURFACT to the SAME folder as your Visual MODFLOW 3.1 installation folder.
The default folder is C:\VMODNT, however if you have changed this to another folder, be sure that you point
your MODFLOW-SURFACT installation to this folder as well.
10. Select the program group you wish to associate with MODFLOW-SURFACT. The default is "MODFLOWSURFACT". To continue, click on [Next].
11. The installation will then proceed to install the necessary program files to your computer.
12. During the installation, you will be prompted to install the required MODFLOW-SURFACT Dongle Driver.
Simply click on [Next] to advance through the installation screens.
13. At the completion of the Dongle Driver installation, click on [Finish] to continue.
14. Finally, click on [Finish] to complete the MODFLOW-SURFACT installation.
You have now successfully installed the Stand-Alone installation version of MODFLOW-SURFACT.
In order to use this program, please ensure that your Dongle is properly attached to the printer port (LPT1) at
the back of your computer.
Network Installations
MODFLOW-SURFACT is not designed to be installed as a typical network application. However the installation
files can reside on a Server computer, and the program may be executed from a Client computer.
To install this type of configuration, please follow the procedures listed above. However, ensure that your are
running the MODFLOW-SURFACT installation from the Client machine. This will ensure that the Dongle driver
is properly installed. During the installation, the target folder for the MODFLOW-SURFACT installation should
point to the same folder on the Server computer, to where Visual MODFLOW 3.1 is installed. In order to
access this folder, ensure that you have correctly mapped a network drive to this folder, before beginning this
installation. Then proceed with the remaining installation steps.
At the completion of the installation, ensure that your Dongle is properly connected to the Client machine, and
is attached to the printer port (LPT1) at the back of your computer.
NOTE: Waterloo Hydrogeologic, Inc. is not responsible for lost or stolen Dongles. The fee for replacing these
Dongles is equivalent to the cost of your original license. For assistance in replacing damaged Dongles, please
contact us.
