Unheard Tales of the Vietnam War: A South

 The Vietnam War Commemoration Committee, the McConnell Center, the Office of the President, the Office of Enrollment Management, and the Department of History present Unheard Tales of the Vietnam War: A South Vietnamese Perspective From Kentucky Tuesday, March 31, 2015 6pm, Chao Auditorium Ekstrom Library, University of Louisville Belknap Campus Reception to follow The Vietnam War is commonly remembered in the United States as the most tragic American conflict of the twentieth century. But this war also saw more than a million South Vietnamese soldiers serving their cause with incredible courage and bravery. Please join us when veterans of the Army and Air Force of the Republic of Viet Nam, a former cabinet member of the South Vietnamese government, and the wife of an imprisoned South Vietnamese soldier reflect on this conflict, share their memories of the fall of Saigon, tell us how their lives changed under Communist rule, and recount how they ultimately escaped from Vietnam and settled in Kentucky. Moderators will ask questions and show clips from Moving Voices Project: Tiếng Nói Lưu Vong, an oral history project that collects stories from South Vietnamese veterans and refugees in Louisville (http://movingvoicesky.blogspot.com). Presenters Dr. Gary Minh Tran – Cabinet member and Vice Minister of Agriculture for the Republic of Viet Nam under President Nguyen Van Thieu Mr. Hung Le – Officer in the Air Force of the Republic of Viet Nam, lived under Communist-­‐controlled Vietnam for nearly 30 years Dr. Khue Tran – Officer in the Army of the Republic of Viet Nam, captured and imprisoned by the North Vietnamese Mrs. Hao Tran – Wife of Khue Tran, who fought for the Republic of Viet Nam and was then imprisoned in a reeducation camp by the North Vietnamese Mr. Tung Nguyen – Fighter Pilot in the Air Force of the Republic of Viet Nam, captured, and imprisoned by the North Vietnamese The University of Louisville is an official partner in the federal program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War (www.vietnamwar50th.com).
