1 Quick Start Guide The SU99 Elite™ incorporates a High frequency ultrasonic generator to vaporize/nebulize the inner chamber contents; through the utilization of micro-processor controls the Device can independently vary both the density of the nebulization and the air-flow. NexGen™ Circuits are utilized along with the SU99 Elite™ as a means to administer the nebulized liquid. NexGen™ Circuits have been expressly designed to provide a closed system for optimum results. 1 Set-Up Procedure for the SU99 Elite™ Plug the power cable male connector (1a) into a power outlet (1b) and then connect the power cable female connector (1c) into the device power socket (2). On initial set-up verify the correct voltage selection according to the label on the device (3).* Switch the device on by means of the power switch (4) found on the back of the device. (1b) (4) (1c) (3) (2) (1a) *Your SU99 Elite is initially set to the voltage appropriate to your country of operation. You may verify the settings by looking at the small numbers in the socket at the rear of the device; it will read 115V or 230V. (115V is standard for use in the United States.) 2 Set-Up Procedures for NexGen™ Circuits Place the Nebulizing Chamber (5) onto the device by aligning the indentation found on the rear of the Chamber with the docking notch located on the device (located directly behind the Chamber Receptacle (6)). Ensure that the Ultrasonic Transducer (7), located on the bottom of the Nebulizing Chamber, aligns and docks with the Receptacle (6) and sits securely (8). (5) (8) (6) (7) 2 Fill the Nebulizing Chamber (5) with water (distilled water is recommended for device longevity). The Chamber should be filled to the bar indicator visible between the minimum (min) and maximum (max) line indicators (5a). Failure to fill the Chamber as instructed will result in an audible alarm sounding when the device is turned on and may result in damage to the Chamber and/or Device. Securely fit the Medicine Cup (9) onto the Nebulizing Chamber. Fill the Medicine Cup (9) with the prescribed medium that is to be aerosolized (10). Securely fit the Nebulizer Chamber Lid (11) onto the Medicine Cup (9). Failure to fill the Medicine Cup as instructed will result in an audible alarm sounding when the device is turned on and may result in damage to the Chamber and/or device. (5) (10) (9) (5a) Fill (11) Place the Bacterial/Viral Filter (12) onto the device by fitting the larger filter opening onto the Filter Connector (12a). Attach the System Circuit (shorter tube) (13) to the smaller filter opening (14) and then attach the System Circuit (shorter tube) (13) to the Nebulizer Chamber Lid (15); either connector port on the Lid can be used. Attach the Patient Circuit (longer tube) (16) to the remaining Nebulizer Chamber Lid (15) connector port. Attach a mask or mouthpiece to the open end of the Patient Circuit (16) for medication delivery/inducement. (16) (13) (14) (12) (15) (12a) The SU99Elite comes equipped with a 99.999% Bacterial/Viral Efficiency filter located on the upper side of the SU99 Elite. Change this filter regularly according to your infection control protocol (replacement filters are available in cases of 50; please see the Product Order Guide for more information). THE DEVICE IS SET UP AND READY FOR USE. 3 Device Operations Press the Power Switch (4) to prepare the device for operation. Press the On/Off button (17) to start the device. Nebulization will automatically begin. (17) (4) 3 (18) (19) (20) Press the Mist Density Control button (18) to the desired Mist Density. Pressing + increases the Mist Density. Pressing – reduces the Mist Density volume. Press the Air Velocity Control button (19) to the desired airflow. Pressing + raises the air volume. Pressing – reduces the air volume. Press the Timer button (20) to activate the timer. Pressing + increases the therapy duration. Pressing – reduces the time. The timer can be set to 15 minute increments; 15, 30, 45 and up to a maximum of 60 minutes of therapy time. The control light indicates when the timer is active and for which length of time it is set. If the timer is not used, the device timer mode automatically defaults to continuous operation; the use of the timer overrides this function and automatically turns the Device off when the preset time has elapsed. If you wish to interrupt the timer, press the On/Off button (17) and the device will immediately stop. To reinitiate nebulization, simply press On/Off button once again. 4 Quick Review 1) Place the Reusable Chamber (Item E75-099EU) onto the Receptacle on the upper side of the SU99 Elite™. 2) Insert the Reusable Chamber by lining up the Chamber with the indentation on the Receptacle. 3) Ensure that a Bacterial Filter (Item A13-206) is in place on the port located on the upper rear housing of the SU99 Elite™. (Follow your infection control protocol for the frequency of change of this filter.) 4) Fill the reusable Chamber with Distilled Water. Ensure that the Water is at the fill-line indicated on the side of the Chamber. (The Water serves as a means for Energy Transmission from the Nebulizing Chamber to the Medication Cup. If the water level is too low and the Chamber is not correctly installed, Energy cannot travel to the Chamber medium. If the water level is too high, it will dissipate some of the Energy and not nebulize efficiently. (Please follow the trouble-shooting guide in the Operator’s Manual for additional information regarding this subject or call for Technical Assistance: (877) 867-7463.) 5) Open the Resealable Bag containing your NexGen™ Circuit by tearing the pre-scored easy-open tab located at the top. (For a selection of NexGen™ Circuits appropriate to your application, please refer to our Product Order Guide.) 6) Open the Resealable Bag and remove the Disposable Medicine Cup and Lid. Install the Lid onto the Medicine Cup. Ensure that these two items are securely joined. Insert the Lid/Medicine Cup onto the Reusable Chamber. 7) Open the Solution Ampule(s) and squeeze the contents into either of the two Connector Ports on the Lid assembly. 8) Connect the NexGen™ System Circuit (shorter tube) onto either of the two Connector Ports on the Lid assembly then onto the Bacterial/Viral Filter. 9) Connect the NexGen™ Patient Circuit (longer tube) onto the remaining Connector Port on the Lid assembly. If your NexGen™ Circuit packet includes a mask or mouthpiece, connect the mask/mouthpiece to the NexGen™ Patient Circuit. 10) The Device Key-pad controls provide icons for easy reference and operation, allowing for independent adjustment of mist density, treatment air-flow and programmable treatment time intervals in 15 minute increments. 4 Just Follow the Steps … Open Fill Collect Note (NexGen™ Circuits): There are specific NexGen™ Circuits for Sputum induction - please refer to the Product Ordering section of this Quick Reference Guide for more information. SU99 Elite NexGen™ Circuit Sets create a fully disposable treatment/induction method in full compliance with CDC standards for Infection Control. Once used, the Circuit, Cup, Lid and Mask or Mouthpiece should be sealed into a bio-bag and properly disposed of. Disinfection/decontamination of the Device, Reusable Chamber and work space is then quick and easy. Using the recommended Disinfectant/Decontaminant Wipe (Item H168-100), you are able to effectively clean and disinfect the work space, Device, Chamber and outer body of the Bacterial/Viral Filter (Item B239-102). These wipes are safe for use on both hard and non-porous surfaces, they are fragrance and bleach-free and have a 1-minute contact kill time for virucidal, bactericidal (including TB) and fungicidal activity.* *In the case of contamination with blood/other bodily fluids or when gross visible debris is present, a thorough cleaning of surfaces and objects must occur prior to disinfection. In order for disinfection to occur properly, the disinfectant must be able to come in direct contact with the intended surface. Note (Sputum Induction): The SU99 Elite™ Ultrasonic Nebulizer is very effective for Sputum Induction when normal (0.9%) saline solution is utilized. The Device generates the necessary aerosolized particle size recommended for this procedure. Patients should not ingest cough suppressants or antihistamines for at least 24 hours prior to Sputum Induction. The use of cough suppressants and antihistamines prior to sputum induction may negatively affect and may severely delay the procedure. Cough suppressants interfere with the body’s ability to produce and cough up mucus. Antihistamines block the effect of histamines, thereby reducing or preventing mucus production. Failure to induce sputum under these circumstances is therefore not evidence of failed inhalation or induction, but the effects caused by the use of these products. On average, the active ingredient in most cough suppressants and antihistamines will remain in the human body for up to 24 hours; because elimination times vary according to the drug taken, consult product inserts or seek the advice of a physician. Note (Use of Unapproved Circuits): Do not use unapproved circuits, parts or accessories as they may damage the SU99 Elite and will void the warranty.
