Library of Things Policy

LIBRARY OF THINGS POLICIES
What is a Library of Things?
The Library of Things @Medford (LoT) is a service at USC Lancaster Medford Library offering
items that fall outside of the usual resources libraries provide (e.g., print, electronic, or
audio/visual resources). The LoT offers items for classroom, study, technology or project
support (clickers, cameras, charging units) and recreational use (games, puzzles, crafts). The
initial inventory for LoT items was crafted from library user data and program attendance. Want
to see something added to the LoT? Let us know!
ACCESS TO LOT ITEMS
Currently employed USC Lancaster faculty and staff and currently enrolled USC Lancaster
students who are in good standing with Medford Library (no fines over $10) have access to LoT
collections. Users must present a current Carolina Card to check out LoT items.
Fines and fees cannot be waived to gain access to LoT items.
LIABILITY, CARE, AND OPERATION OF LOT ITEMS
Users are solely responsible for LoT items checked out on their record and will be billed
according to LoT Policies for loss or damage to item(s) or item peripherals as a result of neglect
or abuse.
It is the User’s responsibility to protect LoT items against loss or damage.
Medford Library is not responsible for loss of data while using LoT equipment.
Users should not make any modifications or alterations to LoT items.
LOT POLICY: ACADEMIC SUPPORT AND TECHNOLOGY ITEMS
Users wishing to check out any Academic Support and Technology items will be required to sign
a waiver of responsibility in order to check out this inventory. The waiver period lasts for one
academic year and must be renewed to access the items.

charger units have a check out period of three (3) hours. Academic support and technology

checked in by a Medford Library employee after use. After three hours, fines will begin
immediate accrual at $1 per hour, with a $65 fee if the item is missing, lost, or damaged (NOTE:

registration and the fulfilment of transcript requests). Fines and fees cannot be waived for
lost, missing, or damaged LoT items.
