Sand wood with 180 grit sandpaper to proper smoothness, remove dust, and stain if desired. 2. Apply one even coat of Deft Lacquer Sanding Sealer with a bristle brush, or pad. Let dry for 1 hour. fine sand with the grain. Remove dust. 3. Apply the first even coat of Deft Clear Wood Finish with a brush, roller, or with Deft’s Aerosol Spray. Do not thin. 4. Apply additional coats at two hour intervals - number of coats depends on the type of wood (open grain woods require more coats than closed grain) and kind of finish desired. 5. Three full coats provide a resistant finish. Where wood is exposed to water, apply an additional three coats. 6. Sand lightly after first coat with 220 grit sandpaper and dust with a dry brush. 7. For a hand-rubbed finish, rub the final coat lightly with 4/0 steel wool or a rubbing compound. 8. Clean brushes with lacquer thinner. For temporary storage without cleaning, tightly wrap brushes in SaranTM - type material. Lacquer Sanding Sealer Specially formulated to precede Clear Wood Finish Brushing Lacquer. It dries by solvent evaporation and can easily be repaired, buffed and recoated, any time in the future, without lifting, wrinkling or totally removing the old finish. CLEAR WOOD FINISH is ideal for all interior wood surfaces, except wood floors. CLEAR WOOD FINISH acts as its own sealer or use LACQUER SANDING SEALER. Excellent for arts and crafts, decoupage and also has adhesion to metals. Non-toxic when dry. Remove all loose, peeling or cracked coatings. Repair all cracks, holes, and other surface imperfections with a suitable patching material. Repaired surfaces should then be sanded, and cleaned. Try a small test area before doing the entire project. CLEAR WOOD FINISH can be used over most metals. CLEAR WOOD FINISH is not recommended for areas of heavy use or where prolonged water exposure can be expected. For those areas, DEFTHANE polyurethane varnish is recommended. IMPORTANT NOTE In moisture areas (kitchens, bathrooms, window sills etc.) white water spotting will occur when the filmthickness is less than 4 or 5 mils. Apply at least six full coats of CLEAR WOOD FINISH to prevent white water spotting. WARNING DO NOT APPLY CLEAR WOOD FINISH over varnishes, enamels (or any other product that dries by oxidation), it may result in lifting or wrinkling.
