Connecticut Legislature passed a law increasing the cost of recording MERS documents to $159. MERS sued the State of Connecticut on constitutional grounds and asked a judge to delay the effective date of the new fees. On Friday afternoon, a judge in Hartford refused the request and this morning the cost of recording certain documents has increased. As a result of the law, please increase the amount you disclose, for recording fees in Connecticut, to $350. Please note: A subordination, if applicable, that mentions MERS is an additional $159 under the new law. If you have any tolerance issues at closing, please contact your AE.
