Since its beginning in 1957, Cookson Hills has offered help, hope, and healing to abused and neglected children and worked with
their families to break the cycle of abuse, neglect, dependency, and failure. Set on more than 1,000 acres in the foothills of the Ozark
Mountains in rural northeastern Oklahoma, Cookson Hills provides a rustic and rewarding retreat for children requiring
out-of-home care. When families have exhausted the resources of their local church, school, and community and still face a crisis
that threatens to overcome the families’ ability to sustain itself, the most likely place to turn to is government-run foster care or the
juvenile justice system. Cookson Hills provides an alternative to those families by offering residential care for their child in a
family-modeled environment, individualized Christian education, vocational training, spiritual formation programs, and specialized
therapeutic services.

Their Food Pantry originated under the umbrella of the Muskogee Cooperative Ministries (MCM) in 1973. At that time, they
served anyone in the community who had a need with provisions provided by the churches affiliated with MCM. They now serve
about 250 families monthly from Muskogee County on Monday through Thursday. These are families who have an emergent need.
They have an all volunteer force of about 60 people and are supported by 18 local churches. Their clientele has changed over the
past year and they are now serving many more young adults with children.

In the mid-1950’s a church school class of the Methodist Church gathered groceries to help low-income families in Pawhuska. Soon
other congregations joined this ministry of compassion. As the program grew, the Ministerial Alliance became the sponsor, and a
building was acquired to facilitate the distribution. Each Tuesday and Thursday morning, any family living in Osage County may
come to Christ’s Cupboard to receive food. Short term-emergency assistance is emphasized, though ministers can grant additional
help, beyond the usual four times a year guideline. Most families facing food insecurity have limited income and experience some
type of emergency. Christ’s Cupboard becomes a very appreciated helping-hand. They consistently serve more adults than children
and many elderly have “out of work” family members living in the home. The all volunteer staff has a reputation of helping people
and of being good stewards. The support of the community is tremendous.

any child 18 years old or younger, free of charge. It serves low-income families, with a focus on Rhoades Elementary families in
Broken Arrow. Rhoades is located in one of the lowest income areas of Broken Arrow. The church works to ensure that good nutritious food is available to children participating in the free and reduced lunch program when school is not in session. Except for an
on-staff kitchen manager, kitchen personnel are volunteers. The church has combined its children’s feeding site within an eightweek, full-time summer camp to local neighborhood families.

distribute food every Tuesday afternoon and evening. They have adopted the Lindbergh School to provide art supplies and other
needed items. They host a “back to school blast” for Lindbergh that includes food, rides, and a clothing give away. They distribute
water and sandwiches to the homeless downtown on Sunday afternoon. They service a two-mile radius of the church building
consisting of six zip codes. They serve many Hispanic families and interview with an interpreter. There are many low-income
apartment complexes in the area. They are an all-volunteer operation which is part of the church’s benevolence program. They
have 30 volunteers to help transport the food, pre-pack the food bags and produce, and staff the afternoon and evening distributions. Their mission is sharing the love of Jesus Christ through prayer and ministry. They have added a clothing giveaway ministry

Catholic Charities opened its doors in Tulsa in 1951distributing food and clothing through the closed parish of Immaculate Conception
located on North Denver in Tulsa. This office functioned as a satellite to the Oklahoma City Office of Catholic Charities. They provide
food and clothing to 75 families daily as well as providing small amounts of financial assistance, advocacy, client referrals, feeding 100
people lunch on Thursdays, and engaging clients in one of Catholic Charities’ other nine programs to meet the needs of the entire person.
They serve a variety of people, typically low income, from the community immediately surrounding Catholic Charities in North Tulsa, to
those who travel from outlying communities to seek assistance. In the Padre Pio assistance unit they have eight case workers, five being
staff and three being volunteers for day to day operations. Typically, there are four volunteers working in the dispensary, distributing
food to the clients, with another four to six volunteers working in the clothing center. Their mission is to be Christ’s merciful love to
those whom they serve.

The Tulsa CARES Food Pantry Started in 1997 with a small donation from the United Way to start distributing food to people
living with HIV/AIDS. They provide food and congregate meals to people in the 23 counties of NE Oklahoma. For those within
five miles, the agency offers them services through the pantry, congregate meals, and their farmers market; to those outside of the
five-mile radius, they provide a gift card that must be returned with a receipt for future access. Tulsa CARES serves the 23 counties
of NE Oklahoma who are HIV+/AIDS and are below 200 percent of the FPG. Their staff has a deep passion to be in this line of
work. They are patient and are full of compassion. They have mental health services, case management, and housing programs
available to the HIV/AIDS community. The mission of agency has a broad scope, “To provide social services to people affected
with HIV/AIDS.” The ever growing need for food due to the economy has put many stresses on their clients. They strive to maintain high quality foods due to their clients’ medical conditions and hope to be able to expand in the near future.

Neighbors Along the line began in 1976. They have four main programs: food pantry, medical clinic, community activities, and
the literacy program. However, they partner with W.I.C., counseling and recovery services, Legal Aid, THD, Triad, Caring Van,
N.A. and others to provide additional services to their clients. Their primary service area includes a five-square mile area within the
74127 zip code, in which a large portion of the residents are classified as low income. Although some of their programs are restricted to low-income clients, their medical clinic and literacy programs are not. They are a staff of four full-time & part-time employees. Their mission is: “Neighbors Along The Line meets basic needs and provides opportunities for development and increased
independence.” Their food pantry has grown significantly over the last few years and now serves a larger portion of the community. Also, they’ve expanded their services to incorporate more community oriented activities such as life skills classes, cooking
workshops, and senior art classes. They inventory their food items and allow clients the option of picking food from a menu list.
This helps to narrow the focus of the items that the client will actually use for food in their homes vs. receiving items that they may
not eat. They also help every client to their automobile with the groceries to go the extra mile in providing great service.

Mary Martha Outreach (MMO) first opened in 1998 to distribute food, clothing, household items and furniture to low-income
families. It currently operates a pantry for three northeast OK counties and serves an average of more than 800 households every
month. MMO has two full-time staff, and four part-time employees. During 2013, volunteers logged 19,142 hours. In the past few
years, MMO has made an effort to widen the scope of services and to focus more on the working poor.
