Mahurangi College 2014 YEAR 9 – NEW PERSPECTIVES OPTICAL ILLUSIONS Aim: For students to gain an appreciation and understanding of Op Art ideas and use a range of drawing and paint techniques in the construction of a three dimensional platonic shape. Learning Intentions: • Identify the Op Art style of the artist Bridget Riley. • Develop ideas through drawing and using mixed media. • Demonstrate a range of practical skills using different drawing and painting media to create a illusionistic shape. ___________________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION You are about to start a unit of work that involves designing and making your own illusionistic platonic shape. You will be provided with range of resources to help you to create your three-dimensional shape You must include one fluro colour in your design. ♦ TASK 1: Research • Artist Model Bridget Riley (1-2 lessons) CI UC Requirements: 1 xA4 workbook page answering questions. Resources: paper, glue, pencil etc. • A PowerPoint will be presented in class and you need to answer the questions related to this. This will give you an idea of where the concept of Op Art came from. ♦ TASK 2: Drawing • Illusionistic Drawing (3-5 lessons) PK DI Requirements: completed 1x A4 drawing using a range of media Resources: photocopies, paper, pencil etc. • Using the imagery resources provided and demonstrations in class, you need complete a illusionistic type drawing using the range of media shown to you. • This design drawing will be assessed and contribute to your final mark. ♦ TASK 3: Designing • Planning Your Illusionistic Shape (3-5 lessons) PK DI Requirements: completed 1x A4 drawing using a range of media Resources: photocopies, paper, pencil etc. • Using the imagery resources provided, you need to choose your shape and plan the designs for each side. • You must also plan the type of media you are intending to use. You need to include one fluro colour. ♦ TASK 3: Construction • Final 3D Shape (10-15 lessons) PK DI Requirements: finished 3D shape Resources: paint, paper, collage etc • You will be shown a variety of paint techniques and will be instructed on the timeframe for each part of the construction. • You need to construct your shape and use one fluro colour. • This part of the assignment makes up the greatest weighting in your final assessment.
