_ Introduction
ARRI QUALITY FOR VIDEO PRODUCTIONS
ARRI is launching a line of accessories that brings the legendary ARRI reliability, robustness,
quality and support to high end video cameras. As the world‘s largest manufacturer of motion
picture film cameras, ARRI can draw on almost a century of experience in building high quality
accessories that withstand the rigors of professional productions. ARRI accessories are based
on thoughtful ergonomic design and feedback from customers. That and the latest design and
manufacturing techniques ensure that ARRI products are robust and reliable tools essential to the
professional performance of a camera system.
Even though this new line of accessories has been designed for videographers, all components are
compatible with film and video cameras, providing an unprecedented flexibility in utilization.
These new accessories include a new matte box (MB-20), a new follow focus (FF-5HD) and a software upgrade for the ARRI Wireless Remote System that makes it compatible with video cameras.

Filling the need for a robust and modular compact matte box that can accept wide angle lenses like
the Fujinon 4.5 x 13, the ARRI MB-20 can be attached to the camera in multiple ways, including
a swing-away bracket and a clip on adapter, and provides two rotating filter stages for many filter
sizes up to 5.65 x 5.65 filters.
FOLLOW FOCUS FF-5HD
Complementing the MB-20, the new follow focus FF-5HD makes working with video lenses
easier through a longer swing arm, a lower gear ratio and a selection of video gears.
WIRELESS REMOTE SYSTEM (WRS)
The software of the ARRI Wireless Remote System (WRS) has been updated to support video
camcorder start/stop and control of video lenses.

f o r c o n t r o l l i n g the lens and came ra from a distance, now also available f o r v i d e o
c a m e r a s . T h e CLM-2 motors drive the lens, while the UMC-3 module mo u n t s t o t h e
c a m e r a a n d c o mmunicates with the small and ergonomic hand units. Th e e l e g a n t
m o d u l a r i t y o f the system allows for a large variety of configurations to s u i t a n y
s h o o t i n g c h a l l enge.

_ Compact Matte Box

With the MB-20, ARRI is introducing the most flexible compact matte box available to the film
and video production industry today. The MB-20 is an all-new compact wide angle matte box that
accepts all HD zooms like the Canon 4.7x11 or the Fujinon 4,5x13, HD primes, small cine zooms
and most cine prime lenses, including wide angle primes up to 14 mm. The MB-20
• has been designed for film and video cameras,
• works with wide angle HD zooms,
• allows more mounting options,
• accommodates a wider range of filters sizes,
• offers a minimum of two rotating filter stages,
• works with more lenses than other compact matte boxes,
• can be equipped with a top, bottom and two side flags,
• and provides an upgrade path as wider HD lenses come to market.
The MB-20 can be attached to the camera using either 15 mm lightweight rods or 15 mm or 19 mm
studio rods. In addition, it can be clipped directly onto the lens. Switching between these mounting
options is quick and easy through a clever modular system. The modular construction of the MB-20
extends to its filter stages, so it can be quickly configured for different applications.
• The basic Compact stage holds two filters up to 5.65 x 5.65 or 5 x 6 and one 138mm round.
5.65 x 5.65 filters have gained popularity recently because they can be rotated even with wide
angle lenses, are smaller and easier to handle than 6.6 x 6.6 filters and are less expensive than
comparable round filters.

• Combo filter trays accept different filter sizes vertically or horizontally
• New lenses and special features can be easily accommodated with new stages for the MB-20
• A large selection of step down rings is available for different lens front diameters
• A selection of new filter trays allows the MB-20 Compact stage to accommodate smaller
filters, including 4 x 5.65 filters mounted horizontally or vertically, 5 x 5 filters, smaller round
filters and various others.

_ Follow Focus
FOLLOW FOCUS FF-5HD
The FF-5HD is a new follow focus that has been designed specifically for video lenses or cine
lenses with a small diameter lens barrel. A longer swing arm ensures better gear positioning with
HD lenses and a lower gear ratio is better suited for the smaller diameter of HD lenses. This is of
course also advantageous when working with cine lenses with smaller diameter barrels or compressed focus scales.
The FF-5HD can be mounted directly onto lightweight rods through a snap-on mechanism, ensuring simple and fast setup on the set. With an adapter it can also be quickly mounted on regular 15
or 19 mm support rods. The FF-5HD can be equipped with drive gears for all popular types of
HD and cine lenses. For greater mounting flexibility, drive gears can be attached on both sides of
the swing arm.
Since the FF-5HD design is compatible with the classic ARRI studio follow focus FF-4, it can
easily be equipped with a number of useful accessories from the extensive tool kit of film assistants.
A right and left focus knob provide access to the lens from both camera sides; the follow focus
FF-5HD body has been designed long enough so that with video zooms, the same regular focus
knob can be used camera left and right, even though a longer follow focus knob is also available for
either side. With the short or long focus whips the assistant can stand away from the camera. The
whips are useful tools when the camera is on a dolly and moving quickly or when the camera is
squeezed into an inaccessible spot. Fast snap zooms can be achieved easily with the focus crank.
With the FF-5HD, a complete professional follow focus system with familiar ARRI quality is now
also available for video follow focus work.

GO WIRELESS
The ARRI Wireless Remote System (WRS), the premiere means for wirelessly controlling lens and
camera on the film set, is now also available to video productions. New software and a selection
of cables allow the smallest and most flexible remote system on the market to interface with video
cameras. The WRS is a modular system, so its components can be configured in a multitude of ways to
suit any kind of shooting situation, from simple one axis follow focus shots to complex multi-camera
shoots. To assure robust transmission, ease of use and greater flexibility, ARRI has written their own
wireless network operating system. This extends the basic modularity of the individual components:
up to three Wireless Main Units (WMU-3) can communicate with one camera, a useful feature when
the assistant needs to pull focus, the operator zooms and the director wants to ride the iris. Since
the WRS is equipped with a smart identification feature, each unit will automatically integrate itself
smoothly into the network once powered up. Even better, up to eight groups of three units (that’s 24
Wireless Main Units!) can be used on the same set, making the WRS ideal for shoots with more than
one camera.
UNIVERSAL MOTOR CONTROLLER UMC-3
The UMC-3 is an external box that is attached to the camera. The UMC-3 contains lens motor electronics for up to three motors and the radio that communicates with the hand unit. The UMC-3 can
connect to selected video cameras to start recording, and it can connect to selected video lenses to
control them directly.
WIRELESS MAIN UNIT WMU-3
The WMU-3 is held in the assistants hand. It communicates with the UMC-3 on the camera and
accepts the hand controllers for focus, zoom and iris. Through advances in radio, battery and circuit
board technology the WMU-3 is so small and lightweight that it can easily be held for long periods of
time without fatigue. Much attention to design details has resulted in such useful features as an illuminated frequency selector and safely recessed control buttons. Through the clean and elegant geometry
of the modular hand units the system can be used equally well in the left or right hand.
I n a d d i t i o n t h e ZMU-3 can be wired directly to a single lens motor
o r i t c a n b e w ired to the UMC-3 when multiple lens motors are
u s e d . To t o p i t off, the ZMU-3 can also be connected directly to
v a r i o u s v i d e o zoom lenses to control their integrated zoom motors.
B A S I C C O N C EPT
A t t h e h e a r t o f the system is a box that attaches to the camera
c o n ta i n i n g t h e camera side radio and the electronics necessary to
d r i v e t h e l e n s motors (UMC-3).
T h i s b o x c o m municates with the hand radio (WMU-3), which can
a c c e p t v a r i o u s hand controllers that are used to drive focus, zoom
o r i r i s ( W F U - 3 , WZU-3, ZMU-3).

The snap-on WBU-3 battery uses modern Lithium-Ion battery technology to provide up to a full
day of running time on one battery. Even if you have to work overtime, you will know when to
change batteries through the 5 step battery charge display.
WIRELESS FOCUS UNIT WFU-3
The WFU-3 is used to control focus and/or iris. Focus and iris can be assigned freely to hand
wheel and slider, and electronic lens and knob limits can be easily set. In addition it is possible to
set mechanical knob limits. The movable index marker is especially useful when the WFU-3 is held
at different angles or swapped between hands.
ZOOM MAIN UNIT ZMU-3
The ZMU-3 is an ergonomically shaped zoom controller that can be used in three different
configuration, providing maximum flexibility. Zoom speed can be precisely adjusted and zoom
limits can be set. A large bar graph shows the zoom ring position, zoom speed and various status
messages. The ZAP button allows for a quick focus check. With the rosette on the right side of the
ZMU-3 it can be attached to a tripod handle.
