our students for the solemnity and respect
that they demonstrated during the

time and commitment in overseeing the
organisation of our ANZAC ceremony.
Thanks also to Miss Rivera-Diaz and the

added depth to our ceremony.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE...CONTINUED
Children Arriving at School
Parents are reminded that students are asked to time their arrival at school so as not to arrive before 8.30am as
supervision before this time cannot be guaranteed. We also ask that students make their way home promptly after
school to ensure they do not spend extended time unsupervised in between being dismissed and arriving home.
Any children arriving before 8.30am are required to wait in the area outside the library until 8.30am when teachers
will allow access to classrooms to prepare for the day. Sports and playground equipment is not permitted to be
used before and after school.
Collecting Students from School
Parents collecting students from school during instruction hours for any reason are asked to first visit the school
office so that a pass can be completed. In order to further ensure the safety of students we will be requesting some
form of identification before the pass is issued. This will allow us to ensure that appropriate adults are collecting
children from school. If parents require a friend or relative to collect any child on their behalf, a signed note to this
effect would be appreciated.
Your support and understanding in assisting us to ensure the safety and security of all students is appreciated.
Insurance
The Department of Education does not carry insurance for students or their possessions both at school and when
participating in educational activities away from the school site (camps involving an overnight stay are an exception).
It is the responsibility of parents or carers to ensure that their children are adequately covered by insurance for
accidents that are not caused through negligence on the part of an employee of the Department.
2014 Enrolments—All Kindergarten and Pre Primary Enrolment Applications

Children born between July 1 2008 and June 30 2009 are eligible to apply for Public School Pre Primary classes.
When making application for enrolment, please bring a copy of;
your child’s birth extract, certificate or passport;

Family Court Orders (if applicable)
It is necessary for parents of children currently attending Kindergarten programs this year (2013) to apply at
the school for Pre Primary placement in 2014 if you wish your child to continue attending Settlers Primary
School. Students in Pre Primary in 2013 will automatically roll over into Year 1 in 2014 and beyond. If your
child will not be returning to Settlers Primary School in 2014, please notify the School Office.
It should be noted that an application does not confirm placement for any child – selection criteria may apply.
Application details will be used to assist the school in organising classes and placements for next year. Parents of
children who are offered placement at Settlers Primary School will be asked to complete formal enrolment details at
that time. Unsuccessful applicants will be offered a place in a school as close to their residential location as possible
or be referred to their local school in the case of Pre Primary and Year 1 students.
Applications close on Friday 26th July, 2013.
All applicants will be advised of their child’s placement during Term 3 this year. Enrolment applications can be made

Immunisations for children born overseas
Did you know that many countries give different vaccines than Australia?
Your child may be up to date with their immunisations according to their country of birth, but NOT be up to
date by the Australian Childhood Immunisation Schedule.
Maintaining a high level of immunisation within our community is a key element to ensuring that we have
very low incidence of vaccine preventable communicable diseases in Australia.
To find out if your child requires any additional vaccines please contact your local GP or make an
appointment on a Tuesday afternoon at Kwinana Community Health Centre by phoning 9419 2266.
