The retail center’s dining lineup also includes Bonjour, Chinatown and Grouper Grille. In the nearly 20 months since closing Patric’s, Achilles and Teater had a chance to take a breath, recharge, and tie the knot after 10 years together. Their marriage renewed their commitment to each other and what they also love — creating culinary magic. “We are going to do the stuff that we’re known for, 239 See IN THE KNOW, 4D Korn to bring funk-metal sound to Fort Rock music festival Saturday IF YOU GO FORT ROCK By Dave Osborn [email protected]; 239-263-4896 Radio stations didn’t play their music much, long before YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, Instagram and other social media platforms. I don’t think we fit with any of that stuff.” That didn’t seem to rattle Korn in the early 1990s. Shaffer said the band continued to experiment with its own sound. “It kind of reflects our individual lives as people,” Shaffer, 43, said in a telephone interview last week. “I think it was through a lot of touring and people seeing us live that people grew to sort of an understanding of our music and getting into it.” Korn has produced 11 albums. Its breakthrough “Follow the Leader” in 1998 solidified them as a legitimate musical act. Their sound hasn’t dropped off a bit, evident in Korn’s latest CD, “The Paradigm Shift,” released last year. “It’s one of those things that, on our first album, we were developing a new sound, but we weren’t really conscious of it,” See KORN, 2D CHRIS BRADSHAW/SPECIAL TO THE DAILY NEWS Guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer, center, leads Grammy Award-winning rock band Korn aboard ShipRocked in November 2012. They are our friends and family really.” During Patric’s public hiatus, his followers especially missed his all-day breakfasts, everything made from scratch. Everyone has a favorite menu item: Patric’s signature breakfast burrito, real corned beef hash, Briestuffed French toast, or a smoked salmon omelet with lemon cream cheese. Patric’s will serve breakfast all day, 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., every day. The full-service restaurant also has lunch daily, and beer and wine are available. The new extended menu features Patric’s breakfast and lunch creations patrons have come to know and love over the years with even more items, Achilles said, including a CrossFit menu with a Paleolithic diet. “There’s a lot of CrossFit folks in the area. I eat like that all the time now,” he said. The paleo diet, a nutritional plan based on the diet of the Stone Age hunter-gatherer, consists mainly of fish, grass-fed meats, eggs, vegetables, fruit and nuts. It excludes grains and dairy products. But Patric’s also has its regular favorites such as sausage gravy on homemade buttermilk biscuits — even as a side order. A place that has a half-order of biscuits and gravy as a side dish really gets my attention. Southern charm deeply influences the menu through home fries, cornbread and fried green tomatoes with horseradish cream. The mix also is spiced up a bit with a jerk chicken omelet, a chorizo skillet, and the forementioned breakfast burrito. What wasn’t mentioned is that this all-day burrito is wrapped around scrambled eggs, pork sausage, home fries, black beans, tomatoes, onions, roasted red pepper and pepperjack cheese and is served with salsa and sour cream. The menu also has selections of pasta, sandwiches, wraps, salads, muffins and mimosas. Dessert offers a slice of Gary’s apple pie or bananas Foster cheesecake or homemade cookies. Reopening the restaurant, Achilles is retiring his longtime local catering service. “I have done that for 20 years and I’m passing the hat,” he said. Achilles continues to evolve. He operated Patric’s from 2005 to 2007 adjacent to Oakes Farm Market on Davis Boulevard in East Naples. After a brief hiatus, including stints at the former Shark’s Cavern in Marquesa Plaza, The Real Macaw on Bayshore Drive and a “reinvention period,” Achilles opened Patric’s in North Naples in July 2009 and the next year expanded into the adjoining space with a nightlife addition to his breakfast-lunch business. The pause button was pushed again in 2012, but Patric’s is gearing up for at least its third launch. The new restaurant has only 41 seats, but it includes a breakfast counter. Of course, pickup and delivery also are available. Information: 239-596-7008. The first U.S. location of Lamoraga, a Spain-based restaurant franchise, opened for dinner last week. “The response has been overwhelming, extremely positive,” said Charles “Chip” Shumway, general manager of Lamoraga Naples. The restaurant and full bar opened April 14 along U.S. 41 in the Park Shore area of Naples. It debuts its lunch menu of contemporary Spanish cuisine on Wednesday. The extensive tapas menu includes sashimi dishes ($11-$12), beef and pork sliders ($7), meat croquettes ($10), lamb skewers ($12), steak and tuna tartar ($15), seared foie gras ($16), calamari ($12) and cod fritters ($10). Various gazpachos ($5-$6) and salads ($12-$16) also are available. Entrees ($27 to $38) include Mediterranean Sea bass ($34), grilled salmon ($30), teriyaki chicken breast ($27), pork shoulder ($30), beef short ribs ($34) and a dry-aged New York strip steak ($38). In addition to tossed salad, mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables, sides include fries four ways, quinoa tabbouleh, shiitake mushrooms and spinach gratin. Desserts ($5 to $9) include assorted sorbets, cheesecake, a fig tart, and warm chocolate cake with coconut ice cream and raspberry drizzle. The 5,300-square-foot, full-service restaurant created from a transformed office building has 150 seats in its dining room, bar and outdoor patio. The dining room includes a unique feature similar to a chef’s table, Shumway said. “The kitchen is completely open and we have a community table that wraps around the open kitchen with 26 seats,” he said. The Naples’ location is the company’s first completely freestanding restaurant. Other locations are in Spain and Germany, with plans for locations in Hungary and the United Arab Emirates. Plans already are in the works to open other locations throughout Florida, said Shumway, a lifelong Naples resident who previously owned Bistro 821, co-owned the former Zoe’s, and managed Chops City Rd. ton 09 s g 1 vin 0 Li , FL 34 88 4 0 13 aples 63-67 N 39-2 2 LUNCH ENTREE GET 2ND ENTREE FREE! The new restaurant borrows the simple build-yourown concept that has been successful for personalizing Chipotle burritos and Subway subs, allowing patrons to mix and match selections of pasta, sauces and toppings. For instance, choose a pasta — spaghetti, linguine, penne, farfalle, capellini, fettucine and even a glutenfree short noodle made of corn and rice — a choice of protein such as chicken, shrimp, sausage and meatball; and top it with a choice of sauce — including Alfredo, marinara, meat, tomato basil and rosé blends. Sauteed vegetable selections also are available. Resulting dishes are weighed and charged $6.95 per pound. For online ordering, the approximate price for a regular pasta bowl is $6.95 and a large pasta bowl is about $8.50, according to mypastaspot.com. This latest location is the fifth for Velez, who also owns and operates units in Bonita Springs, Golden Gate, Immokalee and the newly acquired location at Collier Boulevard and Pine Ridge Road. Little Caesar’s is the national chain best known for its Hot N’ Ready pepperoni, cheese and sausage pizzas available any time for $5. The new area location for Little Caesars, 5337 Airport-Pulling Road, is open 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. For pickup orders, call 239-431-7380. ■ Boba Tea 21 opened Friday in a food court kiosk in Coastland Center mall in Naples. The new retail shop offers Taiwanese-style tea drinks, coffees, smoothies, slushies and desserts such as caramel flan cake and shaved ice with fresh fruit. Boba Tea’s concept is based on a drink invented decades ago in tea shops in Taiwan. Large, chewy tapioca balls, called bobas or pearls, are added to a tea base mixed with fruit or milk. The more than 30 flavors of dessert beverages range from almond to taro, including fruits such as banana, cantaloupe, kumquat, mango and strawberry. Other flavors include coconut, chocolate, coffee and green tea, according to bobatea21.com. Boba Tea 21, 1900 U.S. 41 N., is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
