The Olive Branch petition
requested King George’s decision
Colonists sought peace before war,
the 13 colonies knew not what was in store.
Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense,
to get colonists to join the defense.
If war was about to take place,
brave Patriots would not about face.
When shots were fired at Concord and Lexington,
the early history of the United American stated did begin.
With Cornwallis’s surrender at Yorktown,
the 13 united States became permanently bound.
