KL Book Club Rules

Rules for the KL Book Club
We need to establish the format and rules of the group before anything else.
You also need to learn how to choose insightful or entertaining books that
can appeal to you.
a. Keep things casual: Make it a rule that each member read
book(s) before coming to the book club meeting. We need each
member to show up on time and if you cannot make the meeting
to call or email the chairman.
b. Settle on a time to meet: As a general rule, weeknights are
better than weekends. Narrowing down the best possible time
can be a challenge in itself, though.
c. Decide how often to meet: We will meet once a month.
d. Choose the right atmosphere: Since we are on the beautiful
campus of the University of Maryland at College Park, we will
meet on the first Saturday of each month before our Kappa
League meeting.
e. Give members an idea of how long the meeting shall last:
Meetings will last one hour or less (9:00 am until 10:00 am).
f. Search out books from the list: A list of books to inspire and
encourage our members. It will be five books in each grade
bracket per month.
g. Study the works of the authors: You can choose historically
significant writers or new writers. Please select the books from
your age bracket.
h. Reading Material: You must complete the Book Report
Template before the discussion of your book to earn credit.
In order to receive credit ALL material must be completed before the discussion gets
started. If you read all books in your bracket before we meet, you must call Mr. Holmes to
get additional books. As a reminder, plagiarism will disqualify you. We will ask questions
about the material of the book.
