Today, this data is stored digitally in a geographic information system, or GIS, providing quick plotting and analysis of geographic data. This data is maintained in the County’s GIS Mapping Center. DATA ON COMPACT DISC The ARLINGTON COUNTY GEOGRAPHIC DATA CD is published annually by the GIS MAPPING CENTER. This product serves as the primary method for the MAPPING CENTER to distribute its geographic data electronically to the general public and business communities. Hard copy maps are also available from the MAPPING CENTER, through the Engineering Customer Service Counter. The DATA CD contains the same data used to the create the standard hard copy maps, allowing you to use your software to create maps on your own, or to interactively view and analyze the data. There is no installation program required to view it; you may simply point your software to your CD-ROM drive to access the data directly from the CD, or you may copy the data to your computer’s hard drive. Data is provided in Personal Geodatabase v9.0 format in NAD83 Virginia State Plane Coordinate System. Geographic Data CD DATA FORMAT AND VIEWING Arlington’s geographic data layers are created and stored in Personal Geodatabase format and may be viewed in ArcGIS 9.0* or higher GIS software by ESRI. The software is available for purchase through ESRI. PURCHASING INFORMATION The Arlington County GIS Data CDROM is available for purchase at the DES Engineering Bureau’s Customer Service Counter, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Suite 813, Arlington, VA 22201. It may be purchased for $125. You should call (703) 228-3629 (option 0) for availability. Tabular data on the CD is stored in MS Access®. Note that the $125 charge does not cover shipping. The Customer Service Counter cannot ship the CD.
