The newsletter of the Mount Gambier Italo Australian Club Incorporated 28 February 2014 President's Report meal prepared by our Catering Committee. Joe D'Agostino Unfortunately I was unable to attend this year’s Family BBQ at the Valley Lakes but from all reports it proved to be another wonderful success. All the best and hope to see you at our Club. The BBQ was well attended by players, coaches, managers, and Club members. The day out gave everyone an opportunity to socialise and get acquainted with each other again. Newcomers to the Club were able to experience our hospitality for the first time. On that note I wish to thank all the Sport Committee for a fantastic effort in organising this major event once again, well done. The first game of soccer is very close and I know we have the best possible people coaching our teams. The players are well into their preseason training so bring on the competition. Our Pizza and Pasta nights are up and running again. It was obvious that everyone was hanging out for these as the first Friday night proved to be very popular. People had to be turned away, with the ladies in catering making over 130 Pizzas that night. Well done to all who lent a hand; without your valuable contribution and assistance the Club would not have been able to achieve such a successful night as this. Our Autumn Bocce tournament is also up and running every Friday night. It is great to see so many teams competing and lots of familiar and new faces participating. Good luck to all. The first Cup for the year will be played this Sunday, the Belgiorno Cup. If you haven’t participated in one of these Cup challenges yet please give your name to Mr Frank Capriotti; you will not be disappointed. Everyone has a wonderful day in the company of good friends. The day concludes with a delicious evening InterViews Edition 16 Social Teresa Bueti The Pizza and Pasta nights are going well. Our first Pizza and Pasta night for the year welcomed over 36 Italian Students from Torino, together with their host families from Tenison Woods College. It was a very successful and enjoyable night. At the end of 2013 the Club hosted a Pizza and Pasta fundraiser night for the Catholic Church. The night raised over $1,000 for church; we are proud of our Catering Committee and their commitment to our Club. The Social and Catering team encourage you and your families to come along and enjoy delicious pizzas and pasta, but please remember to book your table (Teresa on 0417 891 811) to avoid disappointment. From the Past Anna Moretti 17 March 1968 The provisional Committee of the new association called on the members of the Italian community of Mount Gambier to officially elect the first effective Committee. Twenty-nine candidates stood for election. The first 13 with the highest votes were elected. Members of the new Committee assigned themselves the following duties: Directive Committee: • Sir G Zannoni, President • Mr A Falcone, Vice-President Page 1 The newsletter of the Mount Gambier Italo Australian Club Incorporated • Geom. With a number of 2013 juniors coming in to the seniors we are expecting another exciting year ahead. We welcome Will Circelli, Tom Weedon, Matt Morony, Sam Dunn, James Dunn and Adam Mann to the Seniors in 2014. From last year we farewell Rashidi Edward, who has moved to Adelaide to attend University. We wish him the best of luck and hope that one day he will return to the Black and Blue. Anthony Pham is also moving to Adelaide to pursue his academic studies, but he has committed to returning back on weekends whenever possible and continue playing for us. This year we welcome Geoff O'Loughlin to Inter. Geoff comes across from Centrals and brings with him lots of experience and we hope that he enjoys his time at our Club. We are very pleased to have returning this season to play whenever available Andrew (Skeet) Ielasi. Skeet has been one of the most valuable players for us over previous seasons. He will be back for whatever games he can play. Also returning is Anthony Bueti who has returned from overseas and after a year away. Simon Pignotti also returns. Another player returning after a few years absence is Rich Vorwerk. We hope all these guys can contribute to making our Senior teams more successful than last season. InterViews Edition 16 The Seniors have just completed another wonderful and exciting Inter Club 8-A-Side summer series. Christian Cella's Azzurri Street Elite were the successful team this year taking out the Final against Nick Morony's Wolf Pack. Third place went to Death Crew led by Matt Bueti who overcome United Nations. Death Crew have made the finals in every year they have competed in this competition. The Senior squad would like to wish all other grades at our Club the best of luck and success for 2014. Let's make 2014 the year of the Black and Blue.
