Concerns
We have an open door policy at Levens
School and Miss Addy and Mrs Farraday
will always find time to discuss any
concerns regarding your child’s progress
and happiness at school.
Trips
We aim to provide the children with
a broad and varied curriculum,
inside and outside of the classroom.
We love to hear when we are getting it
right and just as important to keep in
communication with your child’s teacher if
you have a problem or a query.
If you would like to help in school
this is a great way to do so. An
extra pair of hands is always
welcome, whether this is with
transport or to accompany the
children or both.
Our school aim is to enable the children to
have a love of learning for life; with your
help this is achievable.
Please keep an eye out for letters
requesting parental volunteers. Your
support is always valued.
Possible Trips for this year
Autumn Term: I am looking into options for us to visit some of the people who
help us and I will also be inviting guests into school to talk about how they help
us.
Spring Term: I am currently exploring some options for a trip linked to our
dinosaur topic. Further information will be available later in the year.
Summer Term: I will be looking to arrange a visit to fit with one of our summer
term topics, this is yet to be decided but as soon as I have the relevant
information I will share it with you.
Please note that these are subject to change and more information will be available
nearer the time.
Show and Tell
On a Thursday children have the opportunity
to bring an item into school to share with
the class. This is done on a 3 week rota
basis. It is a great opportunity for the
children to talk in front of the class about a
topic they are familiar with, building
confidence and developing their self esteem.
The rest of the class have the opportunity to
ask questions about the object being shown.
Let your child chose something they would
like to share. Please encourage them; if
possible, to bring something of interest,
something that is special to them, it could
even be photographs of a family event or
outing.
Please talk to your child about the object
they have chosen, so your child is able to
talk about where it is from, who gave it to
them, why they have chosen it, what it is
made out of, how it works etc
Reading Books
Please remember to bring your child’s reading book,
in their book bag, every morning.
Their reading record will be checked daily to monitor
progress and check for any messages from home. After
hearing your child read please write a small comment about
how your child got on.
When your child is ready for a new book please put it the
yellow tray by the door in the morning, with your child’s
reading record. As a general rule we will change any books
on a Monday and Thursday.
It is important and valuable for your child to read the same
book more than once. It allows your child to build their
confidence as they develop their early reading skills and
begin to apply their phonic knowledge. It will help to build
on their fluency and comprehension of the stories they read.
Support your child’s reading at home, find a little time
regularly to share a book together and nurture a love of
books and reading. Miss Addy will be happy to discuss your
child’s progress with you. Lots of exposure to books and
praise for their efforts goes a long way.
Sam
Sam is our class bear who comes home on a Friday night
with a class member. He has a bag, with his hair brush,
toothbrush, a flannel and his diary.
Sam likes to tell the children how important it is to clean
our teeth properly and have a wash before bed.
Please encourage your child to write a diary extract
retelling their weekend with Sam. The children can also
draw a picture or stick in a photograph.
On Monday Sam’s host will speak in front of the class, a
great way of developing confidence and speaking and
listening skills for an audience.
Wellies & Waterproofs
Please ensure that your child has a
pair of wellies and a set of
waterproofs in school at all times,
we use our outside space in all
weathers!
Children with long hair
should have their hair
tied back during PE
and at other times to
ward off head lice!
School PE Kit:
The Golden Book
Phonics
At the front of school is our
Golden Book. This book is
for staff to write in on a
weekly basis celebrating
individual and small group
achievements.
These comments are shared
with the whole school during
our Friday afternoon Good
Work Assembly. This
assembly is also the
opportunity for the class to
share a piece of work that
they are proud of.
Mrs Farraday will also have
chosen a child for her Head
Teachers Award for the
week.
There is a Phonics
session everyday for 25
minutes; during the
session the children are
taught how to sound
out and recognise
individual letter sounds
and skills to blend
sounds together when
reading and spelling.
For these sessions the
children are split into
groups, these groups
focus on particular needs
and sounds to support
the children’s progress.
Cold weather kit:
Blue/black shorts
School Hoodie
School t-shirt
tracksuit bottoms
pumps
All labelled with names please.
Please have your PE bag in school at all times so
we can make the most of the dry weather.
Please also include a pair of socks, especially
for the girls, for the days they are wearing
tights.
PE days are Monday and Tuesday
afternoon.
Letters
All letters will be put in your child’s book bag.
There is a small green box, by the classroom
door, for reply forms and money.
Fruit and Milk
Everyday, before playtime, we stop for a snack. We
provide milk and water and all the children are
encouraged to have a piece of fruit.
This time is used for socialising, the children are
encouraged to try new foods, and learn from each
other.
The adults in class join in, modelling appropriate
behaviour and taking the time to chat to the
children.
