Max and Mollie Shore Memorial Award
Jonathan grew up in Winnipeg, obtained his BA and LLB from
the University of Manitoba and a LLM from Harvard University.
He is a partner at Aikins, MaCaulay & Thorvaldson LLP
specializing in litigation and dispute resolution.
Dr. Goldstine is a Family Physician who was in clinical practice for
twenty years and for the last sixteen plus years has been the Medical
Advisor to the Pain Management Unit at the Workers Compensation
Board of Manitoba.
Over the past 30+ years Jonathan has contributed to the
betterment of the Winnipeg Jewish Community and greater
Winnipeg community.
Dr. Goldstine began his volunteering 35 years ago as a member of a
hospital committee at Seven Oaks General Hospital and continued to
sit on various hospital committees at the Grace General Hospital and
Victoria General Hospital over the ensuing years until 1999 when he left
clinical practice.
He is currently President of the Simkin Centre and has served in
a leadership position as an Executive Committee member and
President of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg.
Jonathan has served as a board member in many organizations
including the United Israel Appeal/Federations Canada, the
Canadian Jewish Congress, the Jewish Heritage Centre, Race
Relations Committee for the City of Winnipeg, Jewish Child and
Family Service, the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, and the
Arthur V. Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice.
Jonathan has volunteered countless hours for the National
Executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress, as Regional National
Convention Returning Officer for the Liberal Party of Manitoba,
Vice President of the Anita Neville Constituency Association,
as a ™Big Brother, and a Member of the United Way Agency
Relations Panel.
Jonathan and his wife Dr. Cara Kroft have
two children, Daniel and Leah.
In 1988 Dr. Goldstine became a member of the Board of Directors of
Doctors Manitoba (nee M.M.A.) and occupied various positions with
Doctors Manitoba including that of President (1993-1994). At this time,
he also began his community volunteering in 1988 with the Winnipeg
Chapter of the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University. Dr. Goldstine
also occupied various positions with the Board of Jewish Education
from 1993-1997.
Dr. Goldstine has been involved with the Manitoba College of Family
Physicians and was a member of their Executive Committee from
2009-2014 and from 2012-2013 was the President. He also represented
MCFP on the Board of the College of Family Physicians of Canada
from 2012-2013. He was a member of the CFPC National Committee on
Continuing Professional Development from 2007-2015 and served as
Chair of the Committee from 2009-2015.
Having already been involved as a Canvasser for the Combined Jewish
Appeal (CJA), Dr. Goldstine increased his involvement with the Jewish
Federation of Winnipeg in 1994 when he joined the CJA Cabinet as CoChair of the Doctors Division. In 1995 he joined the Jewish Federation
of Winnipeg Board of Directors and over the ensuing years occupied
various positions including President from 2001-2003. In 1995 Dr.
Goldstine was the recipient of the Harry Silverberg Young Leader
of Distinction Award. Dr. Goldstine
maintained his involvement with CJA
and in 2006 was Chair of the Annual
Campaign for which he was recognized
by UIA/Federations Canada with the
Chai Award.
He and wife Elaine have two sons;
Daniel (Lainie) and Jason (Genevieve),
and an orange Tabby named Jack.

JARED AKMAN
Harry Silverberg Young Leader of Distinction Award
Jared Akman is the Director of Operations at Akman Construction
Ltd; a fourth generation family operated construction firm founded in
Winnipeg in 1912. Jared is involved with project management, staffing,
strategic planning, sales and marketing, operations, and client relations.
He has been involved in the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg for many
years serving as a canvasser, sitting on the Allocations Committee for
two terms, serving on the Young Adult Division (YAD) committee, and
currently serving as the Co-Chair of the Young Adult Division (YAD).
Other volunteer positions include serving as
the Vice-Chair for the Young Construction
Leaders of Manitoba (YCLM) Steering
Committee.
RENA BORODITSKY
Larry Hurtig Jewish Communal Professional Award
Rena Boroditsky is deeply engaged in Jewish communal life, carrying
on a long family tradition of serving both as a volunteer and as a
professional in Jewish institutions. Her history of community involvement
started at Joseph Wolinsky Collegiate, continued through her adulthood,
and has grown to include her two daughters, Noa and Adi, who are
now also active in local Jewish life. As Executive Director of Chesed
Shel Emes since 1996, Rena has blended her love of yiddishkeit with her
natural problem solving and organizing abilities. She has gained deep
satisfaction both guiding families at their time of need and as a member
of the Chevra Kadisha, caring for the bodies and souls of hundreds of
women in their journeys. Rena is an acknowledged and recognized
passionate student and teacher of Jewish
end-of-life tradition and ritual. She has
trained new and existing Chevra Kadisha
groups throughout North America, and
led numerous educational sessions for a
wide range of international audiences. In
2014, she launched Death Cafe Winnipeg
as a project of Chesed Shel Emes.

JESSICA COGAN
Max Nathanson Young Leadership Award
Jessica serves as an Executive Member of the Jewish Federation of
Winnipeg and is currently the Chair of the Engagement Committee.
She also serves on the Women’s Philanthropy Committee and is a
member of the Ben Gurion Society. Jessica volunteers with numerous
organizations within the Jewish community such as the Women’s
Endowment Fund Committee of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba,
the March of the Living Committee,
and the Rady JCC Maccabi Games
Committee. Jessica is the incoming
President of the Jewish National Fund,
Manitoba/Saskatchewan Region.
Born in Winnipeg, Avi got his BA in Psychology through the University
of Winnipeg and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received a
Masters in Jewish Education from Yeshiva University in New York City.
As a former Assistant Director at Camp Massad, Program Director at
BB Camp, and Director of Hillel Winnipeg, Avi has spent many years
working within Winnipeg’s Jewish community in a variety of roles.
Currently, Avi teaches Hebrew, Yiddish, Current Events, Tanach,
Israel Advocacy, Jewish Community Internship and Debating at Gray
Academy. One of his biggest joys are
helping lead Shabbatonim, annual Jewish
Awareness retreats, and coordinating the
Partnership 2Gether program with Gray
Academy’s Israeli sister school Danciger
High School. Avi loves bringing his
passion for Israel and all things Jewish to
his students in a fun and engaging way.

alana friesen, CPA, CGA
Aleph-Bet Child Life Enrichment Program
Alana is a CPA, CGA with 20 years of financial
experience. She volunteers on the Board of Directors for
Nine Circles Community Health Centre, and on the Board
of Canadian Humanitarian Organization for International Relief (Winnipeg Chapter). She also volunteers
at her children’s school when time permits. She and
her partner David own and operate ServiceMaster
Disaster Restoration of Winnipeg. Alana enjoys travelling,
camping, spending time with family, living an active
lifestyle, volunteering and reading.
CYDNEE SILVERSTEIN
Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre
Cyndee has been active in nursing for 40 years. Her biggest
accomplishment is raising her children, Harlyn, 27 and Sadie,
23. She sat on the Parent Advisory Council, organized the
Family Fun Fair at Gray Academy and assisted with the Safe
Grad Committee at Grant Park High School. Her volunteer
work includes providing immunizations for the Seven Oaks
region, assisting with the Tahara at Chesed Shel Emes, and
sitting on the Bikkur Holim committee at Congregation
Etz Chayim. She sat on the Board of Directors at Camp
Massad and Shalom Residences Inc. She is currently on
the Executive of the Board of Gwen Secter. She is also a
founding member, Executive of the Board and Secretary of
the Guardians of the Children.
ELSKE HILDES-RIPSTEIN, MD MSc FRCP(C)
B’nai Brith Jewish Community Camp
Elske works as a pediatrician at Children’s Hospital of
Winnipeg and travels to remote communities with her
husband and four children. She is a life-long supporter of
children’s camps and the powerful influence they have
on development of identity and independence. She was
honoured to volunteer on the Board of B’nai Brith Camp
from September 2008 to November 2015 as Chair of
the Medical and Safety Committee. Her other volunteer
activities have been focused at Gray Academy of Jewish
Education, through baking days, field trips, hot lunch
organization, etc.
DAVID MAHUSSIER
Camp Massad
David has been a volunteer and employee at Camp
Massad of Manitoba for the last 19 years helping with
opening and closing of the camp as well as assisting
in other areas at the camp. This is his first year on the
Board of Directors of Camp Massad as the Chair of the
Facilities and Volunteering Committee.
MYRIAM SAITMAN
Irma Penn School of Jewish Learning
When Myriam first came to Canada, she volunteered
with the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg’s Young Adult
Division and at Jewish Child and Family Service. She has
volunteered at Temple Shalom since becoming a member
of the congregation. She acted as School Chair for the
then Temple Shalom Religious School from 2009 to 2014,
serving as well on the Temple’s Board of Directors as an
appointed member. Alongside her childrens’ schooling,
she was a volunteer at Ecole Dieppe and served as a board
member at their daycare centres. She also volunteered in
the 2010 Argentina Tango Pavilion at Folklorama.
RIETTA FLOOM
Jewish Child and Family Service
Rietta is retired from a 30 plus year career as an
investigator/mediator with the Province of Manitoba. She
keeps busy as an educational assistant in elementary school
classrooms. She is married to Jerry, has three children, Ari,
Rachael and Tali and looks forward to formally welcoming
Emily to the family this September. In 1998, Rietta was the
recipient of the Harry Silverberg Young Leadership Award.
Since then, she has volunteered with Jewish Federation
of Winnipeg’s Women’s Philanthropy, B’nai Brith Camp,
Chai Folk Arts Council and the Jewish Heritage Centre of
Western Canada. Her involvement with JCFS has been one
of her most gratifying volunteer experiences.

STEPHEN ROSENFIELD
Jewish Federation of Winnipeg
Stephen is a board member and treasurer of the Mount
Carmel Foundation and CPA Foundation. He received
his Fellowship of CGA Canada in 1997 and his Life
Membership CGA Manitoba in 2011. Stephen is a past
board member with the Board of Jewish Education,
Seven Oaks Hospital, Chai Folk Arts Council, Winnipeg
Jewish Theatre, Canadian Friends of the Hebrew
University, CGA Manitoba, and CGA Scholarship Trust.
He has canvassed for the Jewish Foundation and Jewish
Federation of Winnipeg. He was Chair of the Assessment
Committee of the Winnipeg Board of Jewish Education
for over 25 years. He is married to Corky and they have
one daughter, Lana and one son-in-law, Sean Udow.
ANNALEE GREENBERG
Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada
Annalee Greenberg is an editor and writer, now a
partner and editorial director at Portage and Main Press.
Annalee is former editor of The Beaver, Canada’s history
magazine, was a founding member of the Manitoba
Editors’ Association, past winner of the MHS’s Margaret
McWilliam Award, and former Chair of the Association of
Manitoba Book Publishers. A long-time board member
of the Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada, she
currently chairs its Archives Committee.
BLAIR WORB
Rose and Max Rady Jewish Community Centre
Blair was a board member for seven years at the
Rainbow Society, now called the Dream Factory - a
charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for
kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses. He was
a board member of the YMHA, now the Rady JCC from
1997 to 2007. He was a member of the Rady Y Sports
Dinner Committee for 20 plus years and is currently the
Chairman of the Rady Y Sports Dinner Committee. Blair
is currently on the board of the University of Manitoba
Alumni Association.

FAYE MOUNT Shalom Residences
Faye has been a member of the Board of Directors
at Shalom Residences since 1996 including President
(2006-2009) and Co-President (2009-2010). She is
currently the Board of Governor’s representative on Shalom
Residences’ Management Committee and sits on the Jewish
Customs and Traditions Committee. As well, Faye has been
volunteering for the CJA for most of her adult life. Faye is
married to Professor Ken Mount, has two daughters and
is a Bubby. Now retired, Faye was a Special Education
Resource Teacher who taught in public schools, and in the
Jewish Parochial system at Talmud Torah, Joseph Wolinsky
Collegiate and Ramah School.
BILL BROWNSTONE Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre
Bill is a lifelong Winnipegger who has established himself in
the world of business. Bill made his mark in the manufacturing industry with the Western Fashion Group that
grew to have offices in every major city from Toronto to
Vancouver. Bill served on the Simkin Centre board for over 7
years as fundraising chair, acting board chair and chair from
2011-2012. Bill was an active volunteer in the therapeutic
recreation program, and initiated the Simkin Stroll Fund and
Friend Raiser. His volunteer resume includes involvement
in the Riverview Health Centre, Riverview Health Centre
Foundation, Manitoba Theatre Centre, YMHA, Manitoba
Marathon, Association for Community Living, Canadian
Cancer Society, and Glendale Golf Course. Bill and his wife
Faye have been married since 1954, and have 2 sons and 2
daughters, 5 granddaughters and 5 grandsons.
DAVID GURVEY Winnipeg Board of Jewish Education
David has been a passionate advocate of the Board of
Jewish Education and Gray Academy of Jewish Education
since 2014. His expertise in finance has been invaluable in
supporting the board with its goals and initiatives. David
is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA). He
is currently the President of Eagle Custom Homes Ltd.
and the CFO at DiaMedica. David has held Chief Financial
Officer positions with both public and private companies.
Subsequently, he turned his attention to entrepreneurial
endeavors and founded or co-founded several businesses
in the food product manufacturing, construction and home
building and oil and gas sector.
