Rules and conditions
Entries
Zones are eligible to enter three (3) entries in track (please note—2 only in 800m events) and two (2)
entries in each field event providing they reach the qualifying standard. Additional entries will be
considered only in cases of exceptional circumstances and received by the Sports Co-ordination
Officer two weeks prior to the Championship.
Sections
1. The meeting shall be conducted in sections for Boys and Girls
•
Senior—senior children are those born in 2004, 2005
•
11 Years—11 Years children are those born in 2006
• Junior—junior children are those born in 2007, 2008, 2009
2. A competitor whose significant birthday occurs during the current year is eligible for
that age event only.
Referee
Rules in accordance with the IAAF, except where stated otherwise. The referee shall be sole arbiter
in points of law.
Protests
No protest shall be considered unless a written protest is lodged at the announcer’s box by the Zone
Team Manager within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the event. Protests shall be dealt with by the
Athletics Committee in consultation with the referee.
Coaching
Parents, coaches and unauthorised persons are not allowed on the ground. Once competitors are in
the hands of officials controlling the event, they shall not receive any coaching or advice. Penalty is
disqualification of the competitor at the discretion of the referee.

Marshalling
Competitors must report to Marshalls immediately after the first call: after two calls the competitors
may be eliminated.
Priorities
If a competitor is entered in several events which run concurrently he/she must give priority to a track
event, then high jump, then long jump, then shot put events.
Starting order
Competitors may use a standing start or a crouch start in 100m, 200m and relay events. Competitors
may use the starting blocks provided. The toes of both feet must be in contact with the ground.
Competitors must stand behind the mark until called to move up by the Starter. Hands must be
behind the mark. The orders given by the starter shall be–on your mark, set, then the gun. Note—
rules about the use of starting blocks may change at venue management’s discretion.
False starts
A competitor causing a false start shall be warned and the second athlete who breaks could be
disqualified at the discretion of the referee.
Competitors are to leave the arena immediately after their event.
Circular relay
Teams of four (4) laps of 100 metres, a baton to be carried, lines to be drawn 10 metres before each
take over zone and the person receiving the baton may stand anywhere within the area ie members
of the team other than the first runner may commence running not more than 10 metres before the
'take over zone' of 20 metres. The baton change, however, must take place within the take-over zone.
Failure to:

• change baton in the take-over zone
Will be reported to the referee for a decision. Every competitor must remain in his/her lane until
instructed to withdraw by an official. A baton accidentally dropped may be recovered but only by the
competitor who dropped it. Batons will be supplied. The team must consist of children from one
school.

Long jump
Each competitor shall have three (3) qualifying jumps in rotation. The leading 8 qualifiers shall have
one more jump. In the event of a tie, the relative placings shall be decided by the next best effort in
the count back.
Shot put
Each competitor has three throws. The best eight throwers then have another throw. Placings are
then decided according to the best throw of each competitor. Competitors shall use the equipment
supplied by the Association: 3kg shot for 12/13 years, 2kg shot for 11 years and junior.
High jump
1. Competitors may have three (3) attempts in rotation of each height. Three
successive failures at any height shall exclude a competitor.
2. Competitors shall have a maximum of two minutes when name is called or a jump
will be registered. This only applies when the competitor is present.
3. In the event of a tie, the best record on count back shall decide the place winners
(See Rule 16).
Discus
Each competitor has three throws. The best eight throwers then have another throw. Placings are
then decided according to the best throw of each competitor. Competitors shall use the equipment
supplied by the Association: Junior boys and girls 500 g, 11 years and senior boys and girls 750 g.
Qualifying distances/height
These will be determined by the Convener each year. In all high jumps except the Junior girls,
heights will rise by .075m then .050m. In the Junior girls high jump, heights will rise by .050m
and .025 m thereafter. The qualifying standard shall be—

Finalists
100 metre events—first 3 in each heat plus the next fastest time will contest the final.
200 metre and relay events—first in each heat plus the next fastest times will contest the final.
Champion zone
The Zone gaining the highest total of points throughout the meet shall be declared the Champion
Zone.
Champion school
The school gaining the highest total of points throughout the meet shall be declared the winner.
Regional team
The Sydney South West regional team will be selected from the results of this carnival and will
contest the NSWPSSA athletics carnival at Sydney International Athletics Centre.
Note
Use of spikes or starting blocks will not be permitted in 800m events.
Certificates will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in a final.
Wet weather
Due to the synthetic nature of the Athletic track and the availability of shelter any postponement of
the Championship will occur through the competitors’ schools.

Shot put will start at 9.00am with the 11 years, and will proceed until all divisions are completed.
There will be no set order for shot put and competitors will need to listen carefully for their called
event.
Discus will start at 9.00am with the junior, and will proceed until all divisions are completed. There will
be no set order for discus and competitors will need to listen carefully for their called event.
The Managers reserve the right to alter this program order of events should they consider it
necessary.
