TRIANGLES
Triangle is a three sided polygon. A triangle has three sides and three angles.
Based on the length of the sides or the measure of angles, triangles are classified.
BASED ON SIDES
1. EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE
If all the sides of the triangle are equal, then it is called equilateral triangle.

2. ISOSCELES TRIANGLE
If two sides of a triangle are equal, then it is called Isosceles triangle.

3. SCALENE TRIANGLE
If all sides of a triangle are different, then it is called Scalene triangle.
BASED ON ANGLES
1. If each of the three angles of a triangle are acute, it is called acute angled
triangle.
2. If one of the angles of the triangle is 90°, it is called the Right angled
triangle.
3. If one of the angles of the triangle is obtuse (greater than 90°), it is called
obtuse angled triangle.
4. If all the angles of the triangle are 60°, it is called equiangular triangle.
2
SPECIAL TRIANGLE
If two sides of a triangle are equal and one angle is 90°, it is called Isosceles Right
– Angled triangle.
QUADRILATERAL
A quadrilateral is a four sided polygon.
The sum of the four angles in a quadrilateral is 360°.
1. PARALLELOGRAM-A quadrilateral in which both the pairs of opposite sides
are parallel.
PROPERTIES OF A PARALLELOGRAM
1. Its opposite sides are equal and parallel.
2. Its opposite angles are equal.
3. Its diagonals bisect each other(divide into two equal parts)
3
2. RECTANGLE-A parallelogram having all its angles as right angle.
PROPERTIES OF A RECTANGLE
1. Opposite sides are parallel and equal.
2. All angles are right angles.
3. Diagonals are equal.
4. Diagonals bisect each other.
3. SQUARE-A rectangle with all sides equal.
PROPERTIES OF A SQUARE
1. All four sides are equal.
2. Opposite sides are parallel.
3. All angles are right angles.
4. Diagonals are equal.
5. Diagonals bisect each other at right angles.
4
4. RHOMBUS - A parallelogram with all four sides equal.
Properties of a rhombus
1. All sides are equal.
2. Opposite angles are equal.
3. Opposite sides are parallel.
4. Diagonals bisect each other.
5. Diagonals are perpendicular to each other.
5. TRAPEZIUM
A trapezium is a quadrilateral in which one pair of opposite sides is parallel.
An isosceles trapezium is a trapezium in which non parallel sides are equal.
5
6. KITE
PROPERTIES OF KITE
1. The two pairs of adjacent sides are equal.
2. The diagonals intersect each other at right angles
