About the Teacher Hola! My name is Margaret Hanna Kraft and I am looking to teach an elementary Spanish class this fall. I have studied Spanish for going on five years, and I have completed many Spanish classes at Metropolitan Community College including Intermediate Spanish 2, the highest level course. I am going to finish my Associates degree at Metropolitan community two quarters early this next November. My passion is for the foreign languages, and Spanish has certainly been my favorite. I went to college to gain the skills to teach Spanish and I am now ready to use them! In addition, I absolutely love kids and would love a part time job involving children! My Goals My goal in the future is to homeschool my own children while teaching Spanish and eventually French classes for homeschoolers both elementary and high school. I will teach Spanish and French 1 and 2 for elementary children and Spanish and French 1,2, and possibly 3 for high school students. This is my first year so I’m going to start out with one elementary class and have some fun with it! Class Goals My goal would be to teach the children practical Spanish that would be the equivalent of Spanish 1 and 2 in high school. I would try to teach them in practical fun ways that would work with both the left and right sides of their brains and would work with a variety of different learning styles. What’s cool about Risas y Sonrisas also is that it includes American Sign Language to teach vocabulary words to include learning by TPR (Total Physical Response). Total Physical Response has been shown to be very effective in teaching children since they are very hands on. By the end of elementary Spanish 1 and 2 the children should have a good enough basis that they can learn more Spanish through context or conversations. They will know the present, past, and future tense along with a ton of vocabulary. In addition, it is important that the children learn about the culture of the Hispanic people. I will teach them bible verses in Spanish and teach them about the culture and how God is reaching out to the Hispanic communities.
