Triplica™
The Challenging Game of Three in a Row
In Triplica players compete by placing cards to line up three in a row of the shape that matches
their secret Goal. The first player to score five Goals wins! But beware... placing a card can help
your opponents as easily as it can help you. Triplica includes two multi-player games and a highly
addictive solitaire version. With three ways to play, choose the version that is best for you.
Triplica combines a mix of strategy and luck, and is easy to learn and fun to play.

What is a Triplica?
A Triplica is made when three (or more) of the same Shape line up across the Play Piles either
horizontally or diagonally.
Placing a single Play Card can create up to three Triplicas at the same time if you have five Play
Piles in use. Here's an example:
If four or five of the same shape line up when a Play Card is placed, they still only count as a
single Triplica.
A few quick notes about the cards
•
•
•
•
There are six different Shapes used on the Triplica cards.
There are thirty-six Goal Cards which include six cards of each Shape.
There are sixty Play Cards, each of which have a unique set of three of the six Shapes.
The set of Shapes on the card does not have a 'top' or a 'bottom' so you can play the card
in either direction when placing it.
General Rules
•
•
•
Goals may not be scored using Triplicas created when the dealer places the initial Play
Cards to start the Play Piles.
When a Goal is scored in the multi-player games the player who scored must say “Triplica”
so that the other players will know that a Goal has been scored.
Even if a player cannot score a Goal, they must still play a card. It is a good idea to try to
break up Triplicas of other Shapes that do not match your Goal(s).
Game 1 – All Play
Setting up the Game
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Separate the Goal Cards and Play Cards into two separate decks then shuffle each.
Deal out one Goal Card to each player face down.
Deal out three Play Cards to each player face down.
Players may pick up their cards but should not show them to other players.
Determine the number of Play Piles required based on the number of players in the game
2 players
= 3 Play Piles
3 - 4 players = 4 Play Piles
5 - 6 players = 5 Play Piles
6. Deal one Play Card face-up in a row in the center of the play area to start each of the
required Play Card piles. (see Figure 1)
7. Place the Play Cards deck at one end of the row of Play Card piles and the Goal Cards deck
at the other end.
Playing the game
•
•
•
Players take turns in a clockwise rotation around the table starting with the player to the
left of the dealer.
Players start their turn by placing a Play Card from their hand face-up on top of one of the
existing Play Card piles. This could create one or more Triplicas of different Shapes.
Any player may score their Goal immediately when a Triplica is created from the matching
Shape.
•
•
•
The scored Goals must be revealed to all players and remain face up and visible until the
end of the game.
Players end their turn by drawing a replacement Play Card from the Play Cards Deck. If
any player has scored their Goal then they must also draw a replacement from the top of
the Goal Cards deck.
If all the cards are drawn from the Play Cards deck before a player has won the game, take
all but the top card from each Play Pile and shuffle them together to make a new Play
Cards deck.
Winning the Game
The first player to score five goals wins the game! In this version of Triplica it is possible for
two players to score their fifth goal at the same time. If this happens, use these two rules for
breaking the tie:
•
•
If two players both score their fifth Goal at the same time, and one of those players placed
the Play Card allowing the goals to be scored, then that player who placed the card is the
winner.
If there is a tie where neither of the winning players placed the card which allowed the
Goals to be scored, then the winner is the player who first said 'Triplica' when scoring their
Goal.
Game 2 – Single Play
Setting up the Game
1.
2.
3.
4.
Separate the Goal Cards and Play Cards into two separate decks then shuffle each.
Deal out five Goal Cards to each player face down.
Players may pick up their Goal Cards but should not show them to other players.
Determine the number of Play Piles required based on the number of players in the game
2 players
= 3 Play Piles
3 - 4 players = 4 Play Piles
5 - 6 players = 5 Play Piles
5. Deal one card face-up in a row in the center of the play area to start each of the required
Play Piles. (See Figure 1)
6. Place the Play Cards deck at one end of the row of Play Card piles.
7. The remaining Goal Cards will not be used and can be set aside.
Playing the game
•
•
•
•
•
•
Players take turns in a clockwise rotation around the table starting with the player to the
left of the dealer.
Players start their turn by drawing a Play Card from the top of the Play Cards deck then
placing it face-up on top of one of the existing Play Card piles.
If that card creates one or more Triplicas of Shapes from any of that player's Goals, then
they must score their Goal(s). Only one Goal for each Shape that Triplicas were created for
can be scored.
Unlike the All Play version of Triplica, in the Single Play version only the person who placed
the Play Card to make the Triplica(s) gets to score their Goal(s).
The scored Goal(s) must be revealed to all players and remain face up and visible until the
end of the game.
If all the cards are drawn from the Play Card deck before a player has won the game, take
all but the top card from each Play Pile and shuffle them together to make a new Play Card
deck.
Unscored Triplicas
• If a Triplica is created by a player, but does not match one of their Goal Cards, that Triplica
is considered 'unscored'.
• If a player has a Goal in their hand which matches an 'unscored' Triplica left on the piles by
a previous player, they may skip their normal turn actions and simply score that Goal.
Winning the Game
• The first player to score all five of their goals is the winner!
Game 3 – Solitaire
Setting up the Game
1. Separate the Goal Cards and Play Cards into two separate decks. Shuffle the Play Cards
deck.
2. The Goal Cards should be separated into six Goal Piles, one for each Shape.
3. Deal four cards face-up in a row to start the four Play Piles.
4. Place the Play Cards deck at one end of the row of Play Piles.
5. Place the Goal Piles face-up near the Play Piles.
Playing the Game
•
•
•
The player takes the top card of the Play Card deck and places it on one of the Play Piles.
All Triplicas that include the card just played can be immediately scored by removing the
appropriate Goal Card from the face-up Goal Piles.
The player continues to play the top card from the Play Card deck and score Triplicas until
either all the Goal Cards are scored or the Play Card deck is exhausted.
Winning the Game
• If the player scores all the Goal Cards before they run out of Play Cards then they have
won the game!
• The overall Score for the game is equal to the number of Play Cards remaining in the Play
Cards deck.
