December 2015 Crossrail Liverpool Street Station Update Thank you for your patience in 2015 while we have been building the Crossrail Liverpool Street station. Progress on site is as follows: Broadgate Ticket Hall box excavation complete We have completed the excavation of the ticket hall box down to almost 25 metres below street level and have started to pour the base slab of the ticket hall. We have almost completed the escalator incline inside the ticket hall structure. We have begun the breaking out of the passageway below Old Broad Street which will link the Crossrail ticket hall to the London Underground station. This work will be completed in Spring 2016, after which Old Broad Street and the Liverpool Street bus station will reopen. • Crossrail Liverpool Street worksites closed from 23 December – 4 January Topping-out the of the Blomfield ventilation shaft On 18 December we topped-out the structure which will house the ventilation, mechanical and electrical equipment and emergency access for the future Crossrail Liverpool Street Station. The building known as the Blomfield Box is some 70 metres high (or 15 storeys) in total making it one of the tallest structures on Crossrail. 30 metres or 5 storeys of the structure is above street level. The new building incorporates over 2,500 tonnes of steel and more than 7,000 m³ of concrete. An innovative block-work system which contains the structural elements has been used so no lintels or beams are required. The installation of the cable management systems has already started and the Laing O’Rourke team is working towards completing the shaft and handing it over for final fitting-out at the end of 2016. The Laing O’Rourke team on top of the Blomfield Box Station Tunnels Sprayed concrete lining works in the westbound platform tunnel, running under Finsbury Circus, are now complete and on 14 December this section was handed over from the station tunnels contractor BBMV to the eastern running tunnels contractor DSJV to begin first stage concrete works. Sprayed concrete lining works continue on the eastbound platform tunnel and Northern line link. Excavation of the escalator shaft between the station platforms and the Broadgate ticket hall, will resume in January using the uphill excavator. Also in January, works to construct an access passage off the Moorgate shaft, which will form a walkway to one of the passenger escalators, will commence along with associated ground protection works. Moorgate Ticket Hall At Moorgate station the ‘stage one’ ticket hall structural works, south of the old ticket hall, are complete. We have now removed the old ticket hall roof and commenced the demolition of the Moorfields Highwalk escalator and stairs. Last week we began the installation of the new precast architectural roof panels over the combined ticket hall.
