Itinerary DAY 1 Tuesday 4 April 2017 Departure/New Orleans Our holiday begins with flights on United Airlines from Melbourne or Sydney to Los Angeles and onto New Orleans. On arrival in New Orleans late afternoon we will be transferred to the four star hotel located in the heart of the French Quarter. Restaurants will be recommended for dinner. French settled and influenced New Orleans is one of the USA’s most exciting and interesting cities and is famous for its jazz, creativity, romance and drama. DAY 2 Wednesday 5 April 2017 New Orleans We will enjoy a morning tour of the city with a local guide that will include the key sights of the French Quarter: Jackson Square, Royal Street, French market and Bourbon Street, as well the surrounding Garden District, Audubon Park, the Mississippi River and the commercial downtown. The afternoon will be free for independent exploration – perhaps a jazz concert. DAY 3 Thursday 6 April 2017 New Orleans Caribbean. Christopher Columbus first spotted St. Kitts in 1493. On our tour today we will see the former slave market in Basseterre, the Cenotaph War Memorial, and even Bloody Point, where British colonial forces performed a pre-emptive purge of the indigenous people, and literally made the river run red with Carib Blood. We then travel to South Friar’s or Cockleshell Beach, where we enjoy the spectacular views. DAY 11 Friday 14 April 2017 Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas We dock at Charlotte Amalie, the capital of St Thomas this morning. St Thomas was settled by Danish and then Dutch interests before finally becoming a member of the USA territory of the Virgin Islands. St Thomas was a major sugar producer until tourism became more important. We will enjoy a morning sightseeing tour – the afternoon will be free for independent exploration. DAY 12 Saturday 15 April 2017 Panama City A morning sightseeing tour of the plantation areas that surround New Orleans that includes a visit to an historic country mansion. The rest of the day will be at leisure. The tour group will come together at dinner for an included Travelrite International welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Celebrity Summit docks at San Juan at 6.00am. After breakfast and disembarkation the group will transfer to the airport for a direct flight south to Panama City. We will enjoy a short tour of the capital of Panama before checking in at our hotel for the night. Restaurants will be recommended for dinner. DAY 4 Friday 7 April 2017 DAY 13 Sunday 16 April 2017 San Juan, Puerto Rico After breakfast we will be transferred to New Orleans airport for our flight to San Juan, Puerto Rico via Houston. Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the USA. DAY 5 Saturday 8 April 2017 San Juan, Puerto Rico/Sail After breakfast we will enjoy a short tour of San Juan, a USA outpost in the middle of the Caribbean that was settled by the Spanish in 1508. We will see many fine colonial buildings in Old San Juan that were built using blue stone that was used as ballast on Spanish ships. The fine ancient city walls and forts, parks and gardens, beaches and art galleries combine with the bustle of the new town to make San Juan an impressive city. Just before lunch we will embark Celebrity Summit. Celebrity Summit is luxuriously fitted with elegant staterooms, fine restaurants and many comfortable and welcoming public rooms. DAY 6 Sunday 9 April 2017 St Croix, US Virgin Islands On our sightseeing tour today we will see the beautiful landscapes and experience some of the history of St. Croix. We will marvel at the ruins of Butler Bay, once one of the richest sugar estates in the Danish West Indies and we will learn about the local history and landmarks of St Croix at the Whim Plantation Museum. DAY 7 Monday 10 April 2017 At sea A day at sea to enjoy the many facilities of Celebrity Summit. Venture into one of the pools, enjoy the spa, take in a movie or show – or just relax. DAY 8 Tuesday 11 April 2017 Roseau, Dominica This morning we arrive in Roseau, Dominica’s compact, noisy, chaotic but vibrant capital, situated between the coast and the Roseau River. Roseau’s streets are lined with historic stone-and-wood buildings in states ranging from ramshackle to elegant. We will visit the French Quarter and the Old Market. We will also visit the Botanical Gardens and the Morne with beautiful scenic views of the town. DAY 9 Wednesday 12 April 2017 Fort De France, Martinique Havana, Cuba After breakfast tour members will be transferred to Panama airport for the direct flight to Havana, capital of Cuba. On arrival we will be joined by a local guide and transfer to our centrally located hotel. In the afternoon we will enjoy a walking tour in Old Havana. We will see Plaza Veija, San Francisco de Asis Square, Army Square and Cathedral Square. Restaurants will be recommended for dinner. DAY 14 Monday 17 April 2017 Havana, Cuba After breakfast we will enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of modern Havana that will include Miramar, Vedado, Havana Cemetery and the Square of the Revolution. The afternoon will be free for independent sightseeing. Restaurants will be recommended for lunch and dinner. DAY 15 Tuesday 18 April 2017 Veradero, Cuba We travel east to the city of Veradero for a two night stay in a five star resort. We will stop for lunch in Matanzas. During the 18th and 19th centuries Matanzas developed a rich literary and musical heritage and was regularly touted as the ‘Athens of Cuba’. We will have a tour of the city. We continue on to Veradero where an included dinner will be enjoyed at the resort. DAY 16 Wednesday 19 April 2017 Veradero, Cuba Today we will travel to the French settled south coast city of Cienfuegos. We will see many Gallic influences in this welcoming town: Parque Jose Marti, Teatro Tomas Terry, Cathedral de la Purisima and much more. On the return journey we will visit Bahia de Cochinos, the infamous “Bay of Pigs”. An included dinner will be enjoyed at the resort. DAY 17 Thursday 20 April 2017 Havana, Cuba After breakfast we travel back to Havana via the picturesque Valle del Yumuri. Restaurants will be recommended for dinner. DAY 19 Saturday 22 April 2017 Los Angeles After breakfast the tour group transfers to Havana airport to join our flight to Los Angeles. We arrive in Los Angeles late afternoon and transfer to our comfortable four star hotel at Marina del Rey, close to the Pacific Ocean and only a short drive from the airport. Today we arrive in Fort-de-France, the mercantile and political capital of Martinique, and the largest city in the French West Indies. On our sightseeing tour today we first visit Fort Saint Louis, originally built during the 17th century and still an active naval facility for the French Navy. We see the Cathedral Saint Louis which has a 200-foot steeple and was designed in the Baroque style and was completed in 1895. We then drive the short distance to SaintPierre which was known as the “Paris of the Caribbean” in the 19th century. In 1902 Mount Pelee erupted and killed all but two of its 30,000 residents, destroying one of the Caribbean’s most cosmopolitan cities.
