Literacy Notes
Reading: During historical fiction, students
learned about difficult times in history. We
share about our reading in many ways. Students
talk about books often. We write post-its or jots
to remember things we want to discuss. We also
write about our reading. One way we write is
called a WRITE LONG. During a write long
students might:
• Name the book they read
• Name the characters and setting
• Summarize the conflict
• Start with a strong idea/inference
• Give examples from the text
• Quote the text
Write longs give students a chance to justify their
thinking.
Writing: We in the brainstorming phase of
literary essay. Students are reading short stories
and coming up with strong ideas. We will be
choosing one story and one idea to write into an
essay.

and –ible words. Students are learning the
generally words that have the suffix –able are have
a base word (enjoyable), and words that have the
suffix –ible have a word root (incredible).
