The Production Guild of Great Britain will pay tribute to leading UK film and TV industry professionals on Saturday night with its awards, which recognise remarkable achievements made by Production Guild members working in film or television within the production office, production accounts, location management, VFX, post-production or assistant directing roles. The awards highlight the UK’s reputation and influence as a leading centre for film and TV production management and the destination of choice for international film and programme makers, at a time when the creative success of the UK film and TV industry and its contribution to UK economy has never been stronger. This year’s Production Guild of Great Britain Awards will support the charity MAMA Youth Project, which works to increase diversity in the TV and film industry and improve unemployment for young people by equipping them with core skills and working practices to help them secure meaningful employment. Taking place on Saturday 19 September at The Grove in Hertfordshire, The Production Guild Awards, in association with Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, will award four individuals/teams for their exceptional work in film and TV production. They are: The UK production team behind Twentieth Century Fox Television’s hit TV series 24: Live Another Day, who receive The Production Guild Member/Team of the Year Award in association with Millbrook. Producer and British Film Commission Chairman Iain Smith OBE led a team that comprised a number of Production Guild members including Unit Production Manager Kathy Nettleship, Location Manager Casper Mill and Production Accountant David Jones. The decision by Twentieth Century Fox Television to entrust the production and VFX of its highly successful US series’ to British crew was seen as a bold move and a huge gesture of trust in the UK. The production team delivered on every count, achieving a fast-paced, challenging shoot with precision. The speed of turnover of writing, shooting and going to air was unprecedented in British production with filming taking place around the clock and Fox’s US air dates rolling as the team worked. Filming predominantly in London between January – June 2014, Iain and his team skilfully recreated the frenetic pace that has become the trademark of the hugely successful series about CIA operative turned lone agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). The logistically complex shoot was based at West London’s Gillette Building and filmed at Longcross Studios, major London airports, roads and transport systems and several iconic buildings, including Wembley Stadium and the Royal Courts of Justice. Congratulating Iain Smith and his team on their award, Bruce Margolis, Senior Vice President of Production at Twentieth Century Fox Television said: "“We had a spectacular experience shooting 24: Live Another Day in London, and could not have been more pleased or impressed with our UK production team led by Iain Smith. 24 is by its very nature a tremendously challenging series to film, and it was further complicated by the fact that we were bringing this show back years after we ended production in Los Angeles, with the eyes of the world upon us. By every measure, thanks to our talented team overseas, we pulled it off, and we are so grateful for their incredible contribution to the legacy of this series.” Roy Button OBE, DL, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Warner Bros.
