Cause of Macbeth’s Downfall in Macbeth Throughout the Tragedy of Macbeth , by William Shakespeare, we find that Macbeth is a tragic hero. Following the model we find that he begins with noble intentions. He fought to protect the kingdom of Scotland and protect his king. As time goes on Macbeth becomes ambitious, and is willing to do anything to get what he wants, with no thought of the consequences of his actions. In time this ambitiousness causes his downfall, and dissention in the ranks. His on noblemen begin to turn against him. In the end, after losing everything, he finds that the blood is on his hands, both literally and metaphorically. Once he gains this knowledge he is murdered, thus losing the last thing he could cling onto: his life. It has become evident that his downfall is a result of his ambitiousness, but there is variance on who/what may have caused his ambition to rise and thus cause Macbeth’s downfall.
