About Emperor Penguins

Emperor penguins are the largest penguins.
They live at Antarctica, the coldest place on Earth.
Emperor penguins are birds that cannot fly. They
have black feathers on their backs and white
feathers on their fronts. Under their feathers they
have a thick layer of “blubber” to keep them
warm. They swim in the cold waters looking for
krill, fish and squid to eat.
Mother penguins lay one or two eggs. The
eggs are kept warm on the father penguin’s feet in
a “brood pouch”. The mother goes to sea to get
food.
Penguins huddle together
in colonies to help keep them
warm. They like to have fun
by “tobogganing” or sliding
down icy slopes on their
bellies!
