City Cabaret 2017 presents its final concert of the season on Sunday April 9, 2017. The swing band, As Time Goes By, will be featured. As Time Goes By is a local 21-piece community swing band and is a subgroup of the Noank-Mystic Community Band. The group has been playing as a swing band since it was formed in 2013. All City Cabaret 2017 concerts are held in the City of Groton Auditorium at 295 Meridian Street in the City of Groton and start at 3:00 p.m. The City Cabaret concert series is co-sponsored and co-produced by Groton Utilities and the City of Groton Parks and Recreation Department. The band’s music includes many well-known songs from the swing era during the days of famous band leaders like Benny Goodman, Harry James, and Glenn Miller. The band’s music library also includes well-known tunes from famous jazz bands of more recent years such as Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and Woody Herman. -more- City Cabaret 2017 Come Hear the Music Play March 17, 2017 Page two (2) The mission of As Time Goes By is to provide great sounding big band music of the swing and jazz eras for listening and dancing for a variety of occasions throughout southeastern Connecticut. Sean Nelson joined the band as music director in March 2016. Mr. Nelson is a trombonist in the U. S. Coast Guard band, staff arranger, a member of the Coast Guard Dixieland Band, and Music Director of the Guardians Big Band. Dessert, coffee and bottle water will be available for purchase from the Fitch High School Alcohol and Drug Free Party Committee. The concerts are free. No alcohol is allowed.
