Using Skydrive at LSBU
A guide for new students
New students who are attending courses at LSBU for the first time from September 2010
have access to Outlook Live (web-based email system), Skydrive (web-based file
storage), and Office Live (web-based versions of Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
Skydrive gives you access to 25GB of online disk space to store files (50MB maximum
per file). This is in addition to the 100MB of storage space that you have on your I: Drive.
You can upload files to Skydrive and access them from anywhere with internet access.
You can also use online versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint to create and edit those
types of files.
Warning: Files on SkyDrive are not automatically backed up by ICT or Microsoft. If these files are deleted, they cannot be
recovered. It is the responsibility of the student to keep backups of important files on either their LSBU-supplied file storage (I: Drive)
or their personal USB sticks.

Editing your Windows Live Profile
Your Windows Live profile contains information about you, including your name, your
picture and a list of your friends. You will want to edit some of this information-- especially
your name--because this is what will identify you to others with whom you choose to share
your documents. If you do not input a name in your profile, the information presented will
simply appear as a string of symbols.

Important notes about sharing with Windows Live:
•
‘Friends’ that you allow access to your
document will be required to log in using a
Windows Live account
•
Only newly enrolled students from September
2010 onward will automatically be registered
for a Windows Live account, which will be
associated with their LSBU email
•
Anyone with an email address can register for a
Windows Live account. If your ‘Friend’ does not
already have a Windows Live account, they will
need to register. They will be offered this
opportunity when they see the login screen.
Specify the level of access for
each individual that will have
access to your document, here
