THE 4 ELEMENTS. FIRE AIR EARTH WATER What did we know about the elements before the project? We knew: The fire is very warm. It has differant coulors; red yellow, orange, blue. The fire can hurt us, and burn down houses. Only grownups can use matches. Water is in the sea, lakes, and rivers. Rain is water. Ice and snow is very cold water. We get wet if we go out in the rain without rain clothes. In the sea there is fish. The wind can blow hard. We can play with kates if the wind blowes. In the earth we can growe flowers, and vegetables. If the earth is muddy we get dirty. We can walk, jump, and ride a bicykle. We can even run. In the earth there lives worns, wood louse and millepede too. EARTH ”epleslang” 23.09.09 APPEL TASTE GOOD THERE WAS RED COURRANT AS WELL. WE PICKED A LARGE TUP OF APPLES. LUNCH. PICKING RASPBERRY. Where do the worm live? With the 2 and 3 years old we talked about where the worm live. The children knew they live outside in the nature. Alexander : ” It live in Frøydis’s garden.” Kelvin: ” The worms live underneath stones.” Jarand: ” There is where the wood louse live as well.” Simen: ”Yes, and the millepede.” The children desided to go out ang look for worms, wood louses, and millepedes. Jonas holding a wood louse. Digging for worms. In a magnefeeing glas the wood louse gets big. We found worms. Planting potatoes, and chewing gum. The seeds is going to become beautyful flowers. WIND. We made our own wind. Warm water heat up the air and the balloon is blown up. When water is heated it become air. We can use our breath to move things, or fill a bag with air. The wind make the sea move. Then there are waves. If the wind is strong the waves are large. FIRE. We made ice lanterns. We made a fireplace at the beach, using stones, grate, paper and loggs. We brought a small portable firebucket into the wood, on one of our weekly trips. Each child got a stick to put a socige on and barbecue. We made soupe . WATER. We bade in our rain clothes The jellyfish live in the sea. Playing in the rain. : Water can freeze to ice. What did we learn. Through experiment, playing outside, and walks in the nearby area, we looked at the 4 elements from different angles. The children beeing ,from 1 -5 year, also drew, dansed, and painted the elements. They had many thoughs about what they experienced. Jonas (3): Air can smell fresh, or disgusting. Fart smell disgusting. Mathilde (5): Ice is water that is very cold. The old has wrinkle. The new one is smooth. Underneathe the ice plants my grow. We learned that the 4 elements depend on each other. “ Plants can’t grow without water and light. The sun is the largest fire in the world.” ( Niklas 5.) “ Chewing gum don’t grow at all, because it’s not a plant.” ( Synne 5 ) “ The wind move the sky and the rain. The rain put out the fire” ( Casper 4.) “ The fire keep us warm.” ( Miriam 5.) “ If we are thirsty we drink water. If we are hungry we eat fruit. (Leo 4)
