MONTHLY NEWS FOR AND ABOUT OUR CONGREGATION
Dear Westminster Friends,
As you know, I am a BIG believer in the value and
necessity of one’s life being lived out as part of a
small group of other Christians. With the launching of
our Life Groups this month, I want to share with you
my own testimony to their value and importance.
I have always known the value of small group life.
I watched this play in the small circles of friends to
which my parents belonged. They were never big
party-goers; they preferred smaller gatherings with
familiar people, where intimate life could be shared. PASTOR CHUCK LEGVOLD
Whether it was their bridge club, or their coffee klatch,
my parents were always encouraged, and had their considerable burdens
lifted, through these small, social groups.
Now, if that was true of a group of people whose primary reason for
gathering was purely social, how much more true would it be for people who
gather for the purpose of growing their faith in Jesus, all the while seeing their
friendships deepen at the same time? My parents didn’t have the advantage
of small groups related to our home church, but I have, and it has made a
huge difference.
My first intentional small group experience came when I was called to serve
as an Associate Pastor in Indiana. Bonnie and I were informed, that we would
be a part of a small group, formed just for us. So we gathered, pretty much
from the first week of our time there, with a group comprised of physicians,
engineers, teachers, office administrators and more. Our children became
their children, and vice-versa, and we grew together in our discipleship,
through regular study, prayer, conversation, and carrying each other’s
burdens. My introduction to small group life could not have come at a better
time, for it was that group that saw us through the death of my father,
Bonnie’s difficult pregnancy with Melinda, a fire at the church, and a host of
trials and conflicts. Without them, we might have wilted and given up; with
them, we endured and grew. They are still our friends, and we see some of
them regularly. Life, and faith, would not be the same had we not been a part
of that group.
We have been blessed to have been a part of groups in every church we have
served since then, and we long to be part of such a group now. Pastors and
their spouses need friends, not only outside of the congregation, but within
it, for we are a part of this church family. In spite of the well-intentioned
advice of the pastor of my youth, pastors and their families need the intimacy of a group of growing friends within a family of faith; we intend to have one.
It will be best for you, too. Become a part of a Life Group right now. Talk to
me, Tom Westerfield, or Laura Machuca, and we’ll get
you started right away.
Gratefully,
Pastor Chuck

WPC MISSIONS
Jim & Jacquie Tanner
For many years
Westminster has
supported the work
of Jim and Jacquie
Tanner
among
students and faculty at The University
of Wisconsin in
Madison.
During all this time
they have served
with Cru (formerly
called Campus Crusade for Christ).
The Tanners strive continually to bring students to Christ and guide
them to mature faith. They spend much time mentoring individual
students and developing student leadership for the organization.
They plan special events for the university community and have
developed ministries to particular groups such as fraternities and
sororities and the university marching band.
Jacquie was here at Westminster briefly between the time she
moved to Aurora with her parents, Stan and Gwen Warner, and the
time she went away to college.
(Stan came here as an engineer at Caterpillar, and he and Gwen
remained faithful members of Westminster for the rest of their
lives.)
Call, text, email, or converse with the
face to face right away…and let them
help you get started on the most
important adventure we can offer!
(And you should know, too, that if you
can’t join a Life Group in March, we’ll
be continually forming new groups
throughout the year, so take the
plunge into small group life, and enjoy
the energy!)
WPC
VOLUNTEERS
As a deacon in charge of securing volunteers needed for work projects
around our church, I would like all to
know that you can step up at any time
to join groups already in place.
You don’t need to be invited!
Some work groups enjoy
socializing while doing the work and I
don’t want anyone to feel over-looked
or left out. As needs arise, I may be
calling you but in the meantime if you
have any questions, please feel free to
call me.

BIRTHDAYS
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray
and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from
heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7: 14.

Eternal God, “our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,” we turn to
you in this time of need and pray for your guidance and strength.
Jack Pool

We come to you on behalf of our country and our troubled world. We bring
our hearts, with their concerns, with their fears, and with their anguish over
those things that must grieve your heart as well.
Kim Kirhofer
7
We come and pray for our beloved country, that we may be true to our
spiritual heritage and become truly “one nation under God”.
Gayle Copenhaver

We pray for your guidance for our president, vice president, congress and all
those entrusted with national and world leadership. Help them to know
what is right and to seek your guidance in the pursuit of righteousness ,
freedom and security.
Jim Cromer

Grant to them we pray wisdom amid the perplexing issues, conviction in the
battle with falsehood, courage in the face of danger, and compassion for
those who suffer.
We pray for forgiveness where our nation has forgotten you, where we have
strayed far from your commandments and moral standards. Save us from
ourselves - from our pride, from our lust, from our godlessness, from our
obsessions with the temporal over the eternal.
For our men and women who place themselves in harm’s way for the cause
of freedom and justice,we pray for them to have courage in duty, a new
awareness of your salvation, and safe return to home and loved ones.

God bless America with righteousness, which alone exalts a nation.
God bless America with compassion to reach out to those who suffer.
God bless America with a firm faith, that we may know above all else your
will and strength to confront the dangers, both physical and moral, that
beset our nation and world.
In this hour we affirm our trust in You “our refuge and strength, an ever
present help in trouble”.
We pray in the name of the One who is the Prince of Peace. Amen

EASTER – Hallelujah
what a Savior!
Here are 4 scriptures to look at if you have any
doubt of your salvation.
1 Romans 3:23 “All have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God”
2 Romans 5:8 “God demonstrates His own
love toward us, in that while we were yet
Sinners, Christ died for us.
3 Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door
and knock; if any one hears My voice and
opens the door, I will come in to him.”
4 John 1:12: “As many as received Him, to
them He gave the right to become children of
God, to those who believe in His name.”
Have no doubt, God has answered your prayer
for Salvation.
1 John 5:11-13
God has given us eternal life, and this life is in
His Son, he who has the Son has life; he who
does not have the Son of God does not have the
life. These things I have written to you who
believe in the name of the Son of God, in order
that you may know that you have eternal life.”
Luke 15:10
“… I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence
of the angels of God over one sinner who
repents.”
May this Easter find you at the foot of the
cross praising and thanking God for the
wonderful gift He gave at both Christmas and
Easter, our Savior, Jesus!

PRAYER TEAM
Prayer For Our Country
We are told in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be
made for everyone– for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness
and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a
knowledge of the truth.” Our world is in turmoil. It is a time when all Christians should come together and
earnestly seek God’s guidance for those in power.
Why? As noted above, “that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness”.
Paul tells us in Romans 13:1, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority
except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
Peter tells us in 1 Peter 2:13-15, “Subject yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men,
whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong
and to commend those who do right.”
How? The following are some prayer suggestions for our current leaders.
Pray
1 they will seek God’s guidance every day
2 they will be able to discern right from wrong and make righteous decisions in all matters
3 they will want to know God’s will for their lives and be committed to it
4 they will listen to advice from learned and godly colleagues
5 they will work hard to understand and carry out their duties
6 they will listen to others and think clearly before they speak
7 they and their families will have God’s protection
8 they will seek to know more and more about God and serve him well
9 their eyes will be open to their unlimited resources in Christ
10 for whatever the Holy Spirit puts on your heart to pray for our leaders
(Some thoughts were taken from the book, Don’t Just Stand There Pray Something by Ronald Dunn.)

EASTER EGG HUNT
The youth group will be hosting our annual
Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8,
here at WPC at 10:00 AM. Please
invite your friends to bring their
young ones for a morning of
fellowship and fun.
We are in need of donations of
candy to fill the eggs. The candy
should be individually wrapped but
can be purchased in bags. Please drop
off donations to the church office
before April 2.
Thank you for supporting the youth group in this community
activity!
Discipleship Corner During the season of Lent, Christians have traditionally
spent some extra time in personal devotions. Lent is a
period of reflection on what Jesus Christ has done for us,
preparation for the celebration of Easter – He is risen
indeed! While this devotional time is valuable, better is to
continue that practice beyond Lent to the whole year round.
It requires an act of the will: to MAKE time for
conversation with God in gratitude for the sacrifice of His
Son on the cross to free us forever from bondage to sin. The
best time to begin the habit, a good habit, is to start today.
Time with God
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you:
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but
rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in
accordance with the measure of faith God has given
you.” NIV
What form this personal time with God takes is very much
an individual matter. Each of us is at a different season of
life and at a different place on our spiritual walk.
In Romans, Chapter 12, In Romans 12:1-3, Paul writes:
One of the spiritual practices that our Christian
forbears found helpful for this “sober judgment” is the
Examen. Simply put, the Examen is a daily performance
review. At the end of the day, take a few minutes to go
back over the events of the day: what went well, what
wasn't so good. What brought me closer to God or one
of the people He has called me to interact with? What
was a hindrance to my walk with Jesus? What caused
me to have impure thoughts (anger, pride, lust, envy)?
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to
offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to
God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform
any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test
and approve what God's will is – his good, pleasing and
perfect will.
Take the day to God in prayer. Give thanks to God for
the victories, confess the failures, ask for clear vision to
see where God is working in your life so that you can
join Him. Give the problems to God to deal with,
confess my own role in the situation, and pray for the
other person(s). And, most important and most
“unnatural”, stop and listen for God’s response.

ONE WORSHIP SERVICE SUNDAY 10:30 AM SANCTUARY
Our Mission Statement
Westminster Presbyterian Church exists to lead people into intimate
relationships with Jesus, the Son of God, deep relationships with His
family, and servant relationships with our community.
