Truck Loading Requirements

Truck Loading Requirements
The Institute of Scrap Recycling
Industries along with the American
Forest and Paper Association has
published “Safe Shipping”
(ISRI/AF&PA Shipping Guide).
This can be accessed online at:


All trucks shipped to KapStone
Kraft Paper Corporation in
Longview, WA containing recycled
fiber will need to comply with these
safe shipping standards.
The key requirements for loading a
van trailer and a flatbed trailer are
outlined in the ISRI Safe Shipping
Guide and are listed on this
document.
Failure to adhere to these
requirements can result in rejection
of the truck.
Thank you for your cooperation.
We appreciate your concern for the
safety of all of our employees.


Inspect the trailer to make sure the trailer is in working
condition, safe and clean
Ensure bales are of good integrity and have appropriate
number of wires
Know and adhere to the safe, acceptable load patterns
What to know while loading van trailers:
ALWAYS turn the last row of bales lengthwise to prevent bales
from falling/shifting against the door during transit. The last
row of bales must be no more than two (2) high. If only one
bale is placed at the rear of the truck, it may be loaded widthwise in the trailer. However, the stack of bales behind that one
bale should be no more than two-bales high.
THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.






NEVER put a stack of 3 bales next to a stack of 1 bale.
Stack bales squarely for easy off-loading and storage
DO NOT stack bales in an offset pattern (for example,
one bale stacked in the middle of two bales).
DO NOT place small bales on the bottom of a stack with
large bales on top
DO NOT place high-density bales on top of low-density
bales
Leave adequate room to unload the bales safely. Do
not “stuff” vans. Bales often expand inside the van –
leave room to unload safely. A bale clamp, not a fork
truck, is used to unload the bales.
