In some of my songs I have casually mentioned
The fact that I like to drink beer
This little song is more to the point
Roll out the barrel and lend me your ears
I like beer it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer it helps me unwind
And sometimes it makes me feel mellow
Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much
Vodka puts my mouth in gear
This little refrain should help me explain
As a matter of fact I like beer
My wife often frowns when we're out on the town
And I'm wearing a suit and a tie
She's sipping vermouth and she thinks I'm uncouth
When I yell as the waiter goes by
I like beer it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer it helps me unwind
And sometimes it makes me feel mellow
Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much
Vodka puts my mouth in gear
Well this little refrain should help me explain
As a matter of fact I like beer
Last night I dreamed that I passed from the scene
And I went to a place so sublime
Oh, the water was clear and tasted like beer
Then they turned it all into wine
I like beer it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer it helps me unwind
Sometimes it makes me feel mellow
Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much
And vodka puts my mouth in gear
This little refrain should help me explain
As a matter of fact I like beer

Calibration, Certification,
and ISO Standards (oh my!)
The difference between certification and calibration can be
confusing. Certification is verifying the performance accuracy of a
machine at a given point in time.
If that machine is not performing
accurately, calibration is necessary. Calibration is making adjustments to the machine to restore
the machine to its original performance accuracy parameters. Certification is performed to verify the
machine after the calibration.
ISO calibration specifications
are divided into two sections; Verification and Scanning. Under
Verification there are two tests; PTest for spheres, and Length Test.
There are four tests under scanning; THP—high density points
predefined path, TLP—low density points predefined path, THN—
high density points non-predefined
path, and TLN—low density
points non-predefined path.
QES is ISO 17025 certified
which pertains to how calibrations
and certifications are performed in
the field. As a calibration service
provider we must have records of:
 Training our employees on
the procedures and specifica-
tions.
 Procedures on how the certification is conducted.
 A plan to conduct proficiency testing on employees who
perform the testing.
 Testing of the equipment
used to make sure the equipment
is within specification.
 The uncertainty of calculations taken during the certification which were applied to the
measurements.
What can cause a caliper or
micrometer to go out of calibration or certification? Environment,
specifically temperature is the
biggest issue. As temperature rises
or lowers, items being measured
by the tools and the tools themselves expand and contract in differing amounts depending on what
they are made of. At QES we have
tight control over our temperature
to be sure what we are measuring
and our tools are not expanding or
contracting.
The best way to stay ISO certified is to
have your hand tools calibrated by Quality Engineering Service of the Chippewa
Valley, Inc. yearly.
Ford’s 3D Dirt-Detection Technology
FORD reduced complaints of
surface finish by 82 percent in one
year according to the automaker
due to its dirt-detection technology. The 3D imaging system applies varying degrees of light to
the surface, while taking 3,150 images per
15 seconds ‘bringing to
light’ dirt in the paint
and other irregular
paint conditions, which
are then buffed away.
Finish imperfections smaller
than a grain of salt are easy to
miss when using the traditional
examination techniques aka the
human eye. Imperfections are also
difficult to manage with conventional quality control methods.
QUARTERLY EXCELLENCE SIDEKICK
Particles can enter a shop from
sources such as machinery or
workers which is why finish quality is one of the toughest variables
to control in production according
to Ford.
“This system ensures
better paint jobs and
surface finishes for
Ford customers around
the world,” says Tom
Dougan, project manager of global paint applications at Ford.

QES Announcements
Tim and Allison have been meeting with CVTC
about starting an internship beginning next
Spring. Watch for more news in upcoming
newsletters.
My History
I started working at QES in June of
2008 as a management intern. The company was busy so I started to learn how to
use the equipment and make simple
measurements. When I graduated from
UWEC in December of 2008, Tim offered me a full-time position. I have recently returned to school at UW-Stout to
get my Manufacturing Engineering degree.
April is Stress Awareness Month. What do
you do to de-stress? Some like reading or working on their hobbies. Why not try the crossword
on the next page? Can’t find the answers? Just
Google ‘Insane Synonyms’. They’re all there.
My Family
I am the younger of two children. My sister lives in Naperville,
Illinois and my parents live in Bloomer, WI. I married my wife,
Erin, on August 18, 2013 in the mountains of Estes Park, Colorado. We had our first child March 3rd, 2015.
My Hobbies
I enjoy working with my hands and being outdoors, working
on my car, bow hunting, fishing, hiking, riding bike, building
stuff, strength training.
