A WEEK OF CHEAP EATS Hungry but lacking cash? Here’s a week’s worth of meal deals that will have you eating like a king on a pauper budget! You’re a student, you’re on a student budget, you’ve just finished class and you’re starving! It’s time to eat, but the thought of heading home and eating two minute noodles when you had them last night and the night before that just does not appeal. So what’s a hungry student to do? Well my friend, lucky for you you’ve come to the right place! Allow me to present a list of mouth watering, deliciously tasty places to eat at on the Gold Coast every night of the week! And the best bit? They are all within even the tightest student budget! BY CLEMENTINE CASSIDY MONDAY // It’s Monday. Your alarm goes off, you groan and you fall back asleep hoping when you wake up it was all a dream and it will actually be Saturday. But then that pesky alarm pierces your eardrums again, you wake up and realise it’s still Monday and you’ve just woken up with a severe case of Mondayitis. Lucky we have just the cure for you to get you through the day and make Monday one of the best days of the week! And all you’ll need for this budget friendly, Mondayitis-busting dinner is the loose change in your pocket! Drum roll please… Let me present Waxy’s Irish Pub! This popular Surfers Paradise pub will satisfy even the hungriest person with the biggest case of Mondayitis, with their juicy $3 rump steak (no that’s not a typo it’s seriously $3!). Add on chips and salad for a little bit more loose change, and you have a meal fit for a king on a pauper budget. If steak doesn’t appeal, Monday night is also $1 wing night right across the Coast. Cooly Hotel in Coolangatta, House of Brews in Surfers, and Tupe-Aloha in Kirra all serve up Mondayitis busting $1 wings. At only $1 you can feast on as many as you please, so order a whole bunch of them, smother them in sauce and get messy! TUESDAY // Tacos, tacos, tacos! Who doesn’t love a good taco! And luckily for you taco Tuesday is a thing on the Gold F E AT U R E Coast! One of our faves is Mexicali in Nobby’s Beach. From 5pm choose from a mouth-watering selection of tacos stuffed full of delicious fillings for just $5! Go with a group of friends, share a couple of ice cold jugs of margarita, and you’ve got a fun Tuesday night that won’t break the bank. Or try the amazing $20 ALL YOU CAN EAT vegan pizza deal at Mandela’s Organic Café in Mermaid Beach! Or if you’re out Robina ways, visit Dumpling Republic where you can stuff yourself to the brim with their $1 dumpling deal. WEDNESDAY // It’s hump day but it’s okay, we’ve got a trick to brighten your Wednesday! Well, okay, not a trick exactly but we have pizza! And not just any old pizza – One 50 Public House’s mouth watering, pizzas of deliciousness which from 5pm on Wednesday (aka your new favourite day of the week) are half-price! Add on some of their 50c chicken wings that are on offer too and you’ve got a feast! Hump day can come everyday if we get to eat like this! THURSDAY // It’s Thursday and you COULD stay at home, but before you make the drastic decision to stay in and eat toast, sit down and let me tell you about Bine Bar & Dining in Nobby’s Beach, and their awesome Thursday deal. For just $15 you can sink your teeth into one of the Gold Coast’s best parmis. Choose from chicken or veal and eat your little heart out my friend. Oh but wait. There’s more! Your sweet little $15 gets you not one, not two, but three (three!) That’s right three, craft beers to enjoy while you tuck into your meal. So what are you waiting for! Get thyself to Bine and walk out full, happy, AND with change from a $20! Everyone’s a winner at Bine on a Thursday! FRIDAY // Ahhhh you made it! It’s Friday aka Friyay, aka anti-Monday, aka the best day of the working week! Friday nights are for fun. They’re for socialising. They’re for getting together with a big group of friends and celebrating that the study week is over, and stretched out in front of you are two glorious days with no classes. And what better place to get together with a group of friends and celebrate the gloriousness of all that then the Miami Marketta! With live music, delicious cocktails, and food stalls galore, this place is a Friday night must! From spicy Mexican nachos, to vegan salads, to tasty teppanyaki and fresh seafood, there is something to suit everybody’s taste buds. And with the budget friendly prices, you’ll be forgiven for going back for seconds… or even thirds. Then once you’re so stuffed that you think you can’t possibly fit any more in, go and check out the dessert room. Say sorry ‘bout it to your stomach and try one of the amazing raw desserts, doughnuts, or crepes on offer. Sweet tooth heaven! with prices to suit the student budget. Saturday night sorted my budget friendly friend! SUNDAY // You made it! It’s the end of the week and you haven’t had two minute noodles or toast for dinner yet. You are the envy of all your friends. You are a true master of navigating through the tricky minefield that is the student budget. You are a cheap eats ninja! Now it’s time for a lazy, relaxed Sunday night dinner before the Monday blues hit and you realise that the weekend is nearly over. Keep the outdoor theme going with fish’n’chips at one of our favourite places on the Gold Coast: Burleigh Point. Relax on the grass with a picnic blanket and a delicious serve of fish’n’chips (just $11) from James Street favourite, Fishmongers. James Street is also home to other amazing takeaway options like that vegetarian home of deliciousness, Govindas. Fill a punnet with their amazing salads, curries, and other vegetarian delights for just $12! Hooray for Sundays at the Point! So there you have it dear student. Seven days worth of cheap yet totally delicious dinners on the Gold Coast. So step away from the two minute noodles, forget about toast for dinner, put down that box of cereal you were going to eat dry because you forgot to buy milk, and head out to try some of these options instead! Night Quarter in Helensvale is another of the Gold Coast’s night markets with hundreds of tasty options to suit the student budget. Choose from the huge range of delicious street food on offer, grab a drink, and sit and relax at a table with friends and enjoy your Saturday night.
