ST. KATERI TEKAKWITHA PARISH
SCHENECTADY/NISKAYUNA, NY
ROMAN CATHOLIC COMMUNITY
March 5, 2017
Ways to be an Evangelizing Roman Catholic Community:
Go to confession regularly.
Make this a family practice, too.
From Rev. James Kane:
Remarks of acceptance as honoree at “Heart of Christ
Gala”: 18 of my 45 years of priesthood were spent at St.
Helen’s, now St. Kateri School. 1976-1982 as associate
pastor & 1995-2007 as pastor, ably succeeded, 10yrs. ago,
by Fr. Bob Longobucco, whose support for Catholic Schools
has earned his appointment by Bishop Ed Scharfenberger
as Diocesan Vicar for Education; I succeeded as pastor our
other honoree, Fr. Tom Hayes: Congratulations!
During my 18 years at our school, I ministered with 3
principals: Sr. Mary Presentation (may she rest in peace),
Sr. Mary Louise, now Rev. Mother, Sr. Mary Christopher, &
Sr. Anne Marie. Along with Srs. Joseph Mary & Dominica.
The Presentation Sisters helped staff our school for 50+
along with so many lay faculty I dare not mention by name
lest I leave some out, but a number included retired faculty.
Support staff is crucial for any school & in my tenure I was
blessed with great maintenance staff: Joe Daigle, Paul
Dearing, Kim Kaiser; able secretaries, like Debbie
Mulholland, Jo Greene, Chris Cook, et. al, Librarians like
Milly Therrien, Leona Jeffes. I worked with active school
boards & parent-teacher associations; it was my privilege to
be a presence & supporter of your school for 17 academic
years, & so participated in 17 graduations: 30% of the 62.
May St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish School continue to teach
as Jesus did - helping the children entrusted to their care,
under the patronage of St. Kateri, to, in the words of your ad
in the 1/19 issue of The Evangelist: at St. Kateri Tekakwitha
Parish School we: Welcome All - Pray Joyfully - Grow in
Faith & Knowledge - Proclaim God’s Kingdom - Act Justly
Senior Lunch Bunch: Please join us for
minestrone soup & bread as we watch &
discuss a short video on Lent. We can learn
how we approach Lent & enjoy each other's company! We
will meet Wed., March 8, at 11:30am in the Rosa Road
Community Room. Please call Kris Rooney in the parish
office to RSVP so she knows how much soup to make.
Spiritual Memory Sharing, One Way to Say,
“Come and See”
4 Lenten evenings: Mondays 3/6 & 13, Tuesday, 3/21 &
Wednesday 4/5. 7-9pm Union St. Parish Ctr., lower
level. Practicing deep, confidential listening, we
explore the sweet, surprising, challenging moments of
feeling God at work in our lives. We’ll share in pairs & offer
appreciative feedback. It's not performing, We simply talk &
are heard about how Spirit calls & supports us. Marni
Gillard has led spiritual storytelling groups for years through
the diocese, the Dominican Retreat, & other community
groups. Join us for this uplifting experience.

graduating Class of 2017 will be held on Sunday, June 25

St. Patrick's Day Event for the Memories Group
hosted by the Bereavement Ministry - All those grieving the
loss of a spouse are invited to a St. Patrick's Day Mass &
Breakfast on Fri., March 17, 9am, Rosa Rd. The mass is
offered for deceased members of the Memories Group &
Deacon Ron Schlitt, followed by an Irish breakfast in the
Parish Ctr. To RSVP call: 346-6137, x230 by Mon., March 13.
Music Ministry Mass Setting Notes: With each
Liturgical Season change, we sing different mass settings
to set apart each season. In Lent, we begin each mass in
silence with a Solemn Procession. The Kyrie is sung, & the
Gloria is neither sung nor spoken. In Lent, we do not sing,
"Alleluia", so the Gospel Acclamation will be replaced. We
use the Lenten Gospel Acclamation from David Haas’,
Mass of Light. " Glory to you, O Word of God, Lord Jesus
Christ.", The Eucharistic Acclamations will be from the
Community Mass written by Richard Proulx. The Lamb of God
will be from Gregorian Chant & sung in Latin. Also, below
are the corresponding hymnal numbers. We look forward to
sharing the Lenten Journey with you in Word & Song!

Hymnal 340
