The Five Oceans Lesson Plan

particular lesson fits):

The students will know and be able to label the continents from the previous
lesson, and we will be adding onto that knowledge by starting to learn about the
five oceans. Student will be able to name, describe, and label the Five major
oceans.
Time (is this a 1 day 50 minute lesson, 5 day 1 hour lesson, once a week over a
month lesson….):

5 day, 45 minute lessons
What do the students already know? (This could be the Intro or they have learned
information before starting this lesson):

The students already know and understand what an ocean is, and how to find an
ocean on the globe, but they will be learning what each ocean is called, where
each ocean is located, and facts about each ocean.
Objective (What are the students’ going to accomplish):
-
Students will learn what the four major oceans are, as well as where each ocean
is located. Students will be able to look at a globe and point out each ocean on
that globe, along with stating one fact about each ocean.
Materials:

Globe
Map
PowerPoint over the 5 oceans
Diagram explaining the 5 oceans (Inspiration)
Worksheet over oceans
Short video explaining each ocean

Procedure:
We will open up the lesson on day one with the PowerPoint about the oceans
and facts on each ocean.
On day two, the diagram will be presented to the students and we will go over it
together, we will look at both the globe and the map and point out each ocean
and several facts about each ocean.
On day three, we will watch the video explaining each ocean, and after the video,
students will go up one by one and pick out one ocean and tell the name of the
ocean, and one fact that they remember about that ocean.
On day four, we will again review the map and globe together as a class, and
then the students will work on a worksheet that covers all five oceans.
On day five, there will be a quiz that has a map, and students must label each
ocean correctly along with stating one fact about each ocean.
Assessment (How will the students’ show you that the objective has been met):

The students will be assessed by having a short quiz at the end of the 5-day
lesson, where they will be asked to label each ocean, along with stating one fact
that they remember about each ocean.
A Brief Description Of The Entire Lesson - Plus Any Additional Information to be
Included:

During this lesson the students will learn many facts about each ocean, along
with where each ocean is located on a map. Students will look at a globe, map,
PowerPoint, diagram, and also a worksheet to help them better learn about the 5
major oceans. Students will do a variety of activities to learn the 5 oceans,
including working together with peers, video, listening and reading as we go over
the PowerPoint and Diagram, working on the worksheet, and also getting up and
going to the front of the room to point out what ocean and fact that each student
remembers. Students will be able to label all 5 oceans and state one fact about
each ocean when the lesson is complete, the assessment will be a quiz at the
end of the 5 day lesson.
