This is the first year that Catholic Charities has coordinated the holiday gift-giving campaign that was previously managed by United Way Washington. Catholic Charities Washington County Director Amy Currey described the response to this year's outreach as "off-the-charts" with 58 businesses, organizations and churches in the county providing gifts to 2,632 children and adults. Currey said, "We are thrilled to have taken this on because everyone needs Christmas." Currey has experience coordinating Angel Tree projects. As former director of the agency's Greene County Office , she and staff ran the annual campaign there that continues to provide 600 gifts during the holidays. With nearly five times the number of gift givers and recipients in Washington County, Currey said, "I have to give props to my staff for their team work, and to the United Way for a smooth transition that laid a solid foundation for the local effort, and special thanks to all of our community angels whose generosity is beyond belief!" Children and adults in need who enrolled in the 2012 Angel Tree Project and who are served through Catholic Charities and other community agencies including CYS, Community Action Southwest, Washington Christian Outreach , Centerville Clinics, and Try Again Homes will receive gifts this holiday season.
