FLOOR CENTER FRIEND TO SHARE Today the children will hear about a woman who shared water with Jesus. During this activity, the children will share pom poms to fill up a bucket. Supplies: 1. 2. 3. 4. Pom-poms 2 buckets Cup for each child Masking tape line on the floor, about 10-15 feet long. How-To: 1. Ask the children to sit on the tape line and give them each a cup. 2. Put pom-poms in one bucket and place it at one end of the line. 3. Pick a child to be the special friend, holding the empty bucket at the other end of the line. 4. Show the child with the bucket of pom-poms how to scoop them in their cup and pour them in their friend’s cup sitting beside them, until all the pom-poms make it to the empty bucket. Say This: Before the Activity: “Our friend down here has a big bucket full of pom-poms and our friend over here doesn’t have anything! Let’s share, and when the pom-pom’s get to you, pass them to the friend beside you!” During the Activity: (Point to the person with the bucket of pom-poms) “Let's scoop pom-poms with your cup and pour them in cup of the friend next to you? Now pour them in the next cup, all the way up to the empty bucket. Oh, great job! (Repeat, allowing kids to join the center and others to leave if they want.) After the Activity: “Today, we are going to hear about a special friend who shared with Jesus. I can’t wait! TOY CENTER I NEED A FRIEND Today the children will hear about a woman who hadn’t done the right things, but Jesus still loved her. In this activity, we are going to think of ways to love and help our friends. Supplies: 1. Various items that would help someone feel better. Examples: bear (or other stuffed animal), band-aids, blanket, boo-boo buddy, book, toy dishes, or night light. How-To: 1. Have the children sit around you in a circle. 2. Explain to them that you have several things that could help someone feel better. 3. Give them scenarios and have them think about what they would do to make you feel better. Say This: Before the Activity: “Look at all these things we can use to help our friends and show them love when they are sad or hurt. I am going to tell you about a time when I have been sad or hurt and I want you to find something that will help me.” During the Activity: “Let’s pretend there is a storm with lots of rain and thunder! What would help me friends?” (Let the children bring you the teddy bear, or night light, etc, etc.) What if I fell off my bike and my knee is hurting. What would help me? (Help them to think of the band-aid or boo-boo buddy.) Wow, that would make me feel better! It’s almost bed time, but I want to read a story before I go to sleep. What can you find that would help me? (Help them to think of reading a book.) Yes! TABLE CENTER WHO DOES JESUS LOVE? In this activity, we will learn that Jesus loves everyone! Jesus loved the woman at the well and was a good friend to her. Supplies: 1. Butcher paper with several big red hearts drawn on it 2. “Who does Jesus Love?” Activity Page, 3 copies, pre-cut 3. Crayons How-To: 1. Tape the butcher paper to the table. 2. Have the children look at the faces and decide which ones they think Jesus loves. Have them place those faces inside the hearts. 3. Once all the faces are inside the hearts, prompt the children to draw other people Jesus loves. Say This: Before the Activity: “Today, we’re learning about how much Jesus loves us! These hearts represents Jesus’ love! Let’s look at these faces. Can you put them inside the hearts if you think Jesus loves them?” During the Activity: “It looks like every face is inside the heart! Because Jesus loves EVERYONE! He loves you (point to the kids) and you and you and you! I want you to think about someone you love and draw them inside the heart because Jesus loves them too!” After the Activity: “Those are some very special people you drew. Jesus loves all of them! Celebrate when they remember! • • • • Jesus walked a long way and then he was very (thirsty). He met a woman at the well. Jesus knew she had done some things that were (bad). Jesus was kind to the (woman)! Jesus loved the woman at the well. Jesus loves (everyone). Practice the Verse: “Are you ready to practice our verse with me? (Let children respond.) Okay, let’s say it all together. ‘Love (hug yourself) each other (point to those around you) as I (point up to God) have loved you (hug yourself),’ John 15:12.” (Hold out hands like a book.) (Practice the Bible verse several times with the children. Give them a sticker for participating.) Make a List: “Jesus was kind and loving to the woman at the well today. She had done some bad things but Jesus still loved her. [Big Idea] Jesus loves everyone. What are some ways that you can be kind and show love to your friends or family? Maybe you could help your sister do her chores or share a toy with your friend. Let’s make a list of all the ways we can be kind and loving and write them in our journal.” (Write down the children’s names and what they say in your journal. Remember to print the words so they can recognize their names and letters. Mention their list when you pray together.) Pray: “Dear Jesus, thank you for loving us. Help us to show others this week that we love them by (read the items on your list). We want to love others the way you love them. Red heart die-cut, one per child Greeting card envelope, one per child “Jesus Loves Me No Matter What” Activity Page, one per child Scissors Glue Crayons How-To: 1. Lift the flap of the envelope and glue the heart on the point inside of envelope. 2. Give each child an Activity Page. Point to the squares and talk about the pictures (Save the “Jesus loves me no matter what” picture for last). 3. Have children color and cut out the pictures to put in the envelope if they think Jesus loves the kids in each picture. (If there is time, allow them to decorate their envelope as well.) 4. Ask them to glue the “Jesus loves me no matter what” heart on the front of the envelope. Say This: Before the Activity “We are going to make a special envelope to remind us of all the times that Jesus loves us. You can color the pictures and put them in the envelope to remind you that when you’re happy, sad, messy, hurt, or mad, Jesus still loves you!” During the Activity: “The child in this picture looks happy. Does Jesus loves us when we’re happy? (Let children respond.) Yes! Jesus loves us no matter what.” (Continue until you have talked about each picture.) After the Activity: “[Key Question] Who does Jesus love? [Big Idea] Jesus loves everyone. Jesus loves us all the time! And that’s how we’re supposed to love others! PLAY TIME JESUS LOVES EVERYONE Supplies: No supplies needed How-To: 1. Have two small group leaders stand facing each other with room for children to pass between them. 2. Have two small group leaders put their hands together above their heads to form a “bridge” for the kids to go under. 3. Lead children in the song “Jesus Loves Everyone” to the tune of London Bridge is Falling Down as they take turns walking under the “bridge.” At the end of the verse, hug the child that’s under the “bridge” and say their name. Jesus loves everyone, everyone, everyone. Jesus loves everyone. He really loves (Child’s name). 4. Continue singing until you have given each child a turn to be “caught” in the bridge. Say This: Before the Activity: [Key Question] “Who does Jesus love? [Big Idea] Jesus loves everyone. Can you believe that Jesus loves us no matter what? That is the best news ever! Let’s line up and take turns walking under the ‘bridge’ (holding hands together above your heads) while we sing a song about how Jesus loves everyone!” After the Activity: “You know what?
