Dear friends in Christ,
I am pleased that we are finally able to have Mass in our newly renovated Church this
Sunday! The work is not completed and it will be a little while before it is all finished but
we can at least use the space for Mass and other liturgical functions. We also have
brand new chairs. These chairs are durable and comfortable. As you can imagine, they
were not cheap. If you are interested, I invite you to consider sponsoring a chair. For
$250 we will dedicate a chair in your name or perhaps someone in your family. This will
greatly help us in defraying the cost of the renovation project.
While we enjoy the new appearance of our Church, the readings in today’s Mass
invite us to reflect upon appearances. In the first reading Samuel says to Jesse “Not as
man sees does God see because the man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into
the heart.” The second reading talks about the distinction between the light and
darkness. Then finally, the Gospel is about a man born blind. Jesus says that it is so “the
works of God may be made visible through him.” Appearances can be superficial or
even misleading, furthermore good eyesight is not a synonym for clear vision. As people
of Faith we are challenged to look beyond appearance to see the fullness of reality
around us.
Please Excuse Our Mess!

deserved makeover to better serve
