Presidents Message
Sandro Botticelli
Dear Brothers & Sisters
Was born in 1444 in Florence and
died on May 17, 1510 in Florence.
The month of May began with our 97th annual anniversary
dinner dance , chaired by Kathryn Grande, Mary Desmond
was the secretary, Journal chairs MaryJo Rydzewski, Mirina
O’Brien assisted by; Angelo Grande ,Janis & Tony Ceriello,Tony Sclafani, John Macari & James McAleer..
Pat Mumford & Pat Decicco Goldstein greeted our guests at
the door., As we honored Dr. Charles his wife Marisa and
their 2 lovely daughters Francesca & Antonia Gambino.
Alessandro di Mariano Di Vanni Filipepi known as Sandro Botticcelli was
an Italian painter of the early Renaissance. He belonged to the Florentine School under the patronage of Lorenzo de’ Medici, A movement that Giorgio
Vasari would Characterize less than a hundred years later in
his Vita of Botticelli as a “Golden Age”
The Gambino’s donated a huge banner that will be displayed
on the side of the building once the building committee determines how to best display it.
Thank you to all of the above for a successful dinner dance.
Monday May 29th the City of Glen Cove will host the annual
Memorial Day Parade in which Loggia Glen Cove members
will march along with other organizations and school bands. I
would like to see a big turn out from our members. After the
parade, Frank Stanco & Rocco DeSibio will prepare a delicious barbeque .
Botticelli’s posthumous reputation suffered until the late
19th century: Since then his work has been seen to represent
the linear grace of Early Renaissance Painting.
The Poetic paintings of the Renaissance master known as
Botticcelli often describe the beginnings of things. With
grace and delicacy Botticelli depicted not just love but the
birth of Christ, not only the beauty of nature but the blooming of spring. He turned for subject matter of history and
religion, to poetry and Legend. continued to next

During the month of May, the following members have gone
to various local Cemiteries and placed American flags on the
graves of our departed members. Thank You Kathryn & Angelo Grande, Michael Carrera and Millie Sullivan, James
McAleer, Nina Trolio, Mirina O’Brien , Tony & Janis Ceriello, & Joseph Gallo. A big thank you to all.

Cari Fratelli e Sorelle
Janis & Tony Ceriello, Tony Sclafani, John Macari e James
McAleer.
Among his many admirers was Pope Sixtus IV In 1481
the Pope invited Botticelli to Rome to help decorate the
Sistine Chapel which had recently been completed. Botticelli’s contributions to the chapel include wall paintings
illustrating the life of Moses. The spiritual quality of his
religious paintings can also be seen in his potrayals of the
gods and heroes of ancient Greece. Botticelli’s paintings
are famous for their dancing lines flowing forms, and delicate details, admirably represented in the Primavera. His
golden haired Venus, goddess of love, has the faraway
look in her eyes of one lost in daydreams, which appears
so often in Botticelli’s work.
