Bonjour Preschool Parents,
It appears that we are nearing the end of the fall season and heading
into winter. I want to remind parents that as we enter into the cold weather,
please make sure to send your children to school with the appropriate clothing.
Also please make sure that you are placing your child’s boots in our spot at the
entrance of Ecole St. Matthew School.
This past month we have been learning more about our colours and
working on our tripod grasp for printing. We have been putting our fine motor
skills into practice and we are slowly working towards printing our names. During
the month of November, we will be continuing to use our fine motor skills through
various activities. As well, continuing to work on our name printing, our colours in
French, and beginning to learn about our numbers.
During the month of November, we will also start talking about bears ‘Les
Ours’. Some of our lessons/activities may revolve around bears, and we will begin
to learn about hibernation. At the end of the month, we will have a Teddy Bears
Picnic! I will email about the picnic in further detail at a later date.
In the past two weeks I have started something new in the classroom. We
now have a ‘Mot du Jour/ Word of the Day’. Every morning I introduce a ‘Mot du
Jour’ that revolves around what we will be learning that day. We talk about the
letters in the word, we learn how to say the word, and I tell students what it is in
English. In a few weeks I will be putting together booklets that will have every
‘Mot du Jour’ for the week and I will be sending home a list of the words. This will
help encourage you and your child to practice these words at home in order to
help enrich their French vocabulary.
Our sharing theme for this month is “Your favourite book.” Please check
your child's mailbox for your sharing/parent helper calendars. Please don’t worry
if your child is absent on their sharing day as we can always make it up on the
next day that they are present at school.
This month’s field trip will be at The Festival of Trees! Our M/W/F classes will
be (tentatively) going to the festival on Monday, November 21st at 9:30 and our
T/Th classes will be (tentatively) going on Tuesday, November 22nd at 9:30. I have
not yet received confirmation from the organizers at the WDM on the date/time.
As soon as I have the complete information, I will be sure to send out an email. If
the WDM allows us to use these dates/times I ask that you, please be at school
by 8:50 a.m. in order to load the bus and arrive at the WDM promptly by 9:30.
On Wednesday, November 9th and on Thursday, November 10th, I will be
holding Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences. This will be a time for you to come
in and sit down to talk about your child’s progress in school thus far. Your child’s
social development, academic progressions, and emotional development will all
be addressed during this time. I will be holding conferences during our class time
on the dates listed above, therefore there will not be any classes on these two
dates. I will also be holding conferences during the evening of Wednesday
November 9th, until 8:00 p.m. A sign up sheet with conference time slots will be
posted in the classroom next week. As a note, there will be activity conferences
this upcoming March. During these conferences, your child will be asked to
attend with you as they will be given the opportunity to demonstrate (through a
series of short activities) their progress to that point.
Thank you to everyone who ordered Scholastic books this past month,
your books should be arriving soon! For those wanting books, or if you would like
to purchase more books, our next month’s order forms will be arriving soon. I am
hoping that one day our “book bank’ will have enough money saved up to buy
more classroom resources!
There will not be any school on Friday November 11th for Remembrance
Day, as well as Monday November 14th, and Tuesday November 15th for teacher
PLD (professional Learning Development) days.
If you have questions or concerns you can call me at school @ 659-7820 or
e-mail me at [email protected]. If you call the class during class
times I will not answer the phone but I will retrieve messages as soon as possible.
Thank you all for your kindness, cooperation, and continued support,
Mademoiselle Camalari
