After studying each tab of this lesson, you will be able to:
 use the verb ‘DAR’ (to give) and indirect object pronouns, to state
what people give to others, in complete Spanish sentences.
On this Voice Activity, you need to use the verb 'DAR' (to give) to
create sentences about gifts people give, and to whom the gifts are
given, using complete Spanish sentences.
GRAMMAR REVIEW: the verb “DAR” (to give) and Indirect Object
Pronouns
The verb Dar is a useful verb to talk about giving things to others.
Depending on WHOM you are giving something to, you need to use a
correct Indirect Object Pronoun, along with the correct form of the
verb 'DAR'.
Let’s take a closer look at how “dar” is conjugated and used in
Spanish.
The conjugation of this verb is as follows:
Dar → to give
Yo doy : I give
Tú das : You give (talking to a friend or relative- INFORMAL)
Él/Ella/Ud. da :He gives, She gives, You give ( talking to an unrelated
adult- FORMAL)
Nosotros/Nosotras damos ( We give )
Vosotros/Vosotras dáis You all give (used ONLY in Spain- talking to
two people or more that you are familiar with )
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes dan: They give, You all give (talking to any two
people or more )
After you decide who will receive the gift, then you must choose an
Indirect Object Pronoun (me, te, le, nos, les) based on whom the gift
is being given to. Include preposition “a” to express “to” whom this
item is given, if you specify who the recipient is.
INDIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS:
me: to me / for me
te: to you /for you ( talking to a friend or relative)
le: to him / for him , to her/for her . to you/for you (talking to an adult
you are not related to -Usted form )
nos: to us /for us
les: to them/for them
EXAMPLES of what your sentences should look like:
Tú LE DAS los chocolates a mi madre. (YOU GIVE the chocolates to
my mother. ( TO HER ))
Yo TE DOY los chocolates. (I GIVE the chocolates TO YOU. )
Ella ME DA las flores. (SHE GIVES the flowers TO ME. )
Yo LES DOY las flores a mis amigas. (I GIVE the flowers to my friends.
(TO THEM))
