Meeting Minutes from 8/16/16 Meeting: Staff Present: Amanda Moon – Principal, Jay Elliott – Teacher Leader, Amanda Wilson - WECC Board Members Present: Tara York – Co-President, Leann McGrane –Co-President, Kelly Johnson – Treasurer, Amy Brummet – Secretary Five additional parents were present. The meeting was called to order by Tara Principal’s Report: • • • • • • • • • Mrs. Moon thanked Community Club for providing lunch for the teachers during the first week of school, the teachers appreciated it. Mrs. Moon thanked the Community Club for providing dinner for students and families at backto-school night. The building improvements are complete. The improvements include installation of wallmounted lunch tables, security doors between the main building and the gym, a security partition between the main office and the building, and lifts to the stage and to the basement making the building fully accessible to all students. iPads are up and running with some changes from last year o Students are no longer required to have an Apple ID. o There is no longer an App Store on the iPads, all applications are loaded onto the iPads at the district level. o Teachers have access to Apple classroom which allows them real time access to all iPads in their classroom. There were a total of 30 new students in addition to the 45 kindergarteners. The building total student population is 295 which is similar to last year. Savings Sidekick assembly will be 8/29, students will be bringing home the coupon book and information that day. The coupon book that comes home with the student either needs to be purchased or returned to school at the end of the fundraiser. No school for students on 9/2 No school for students or staff on 9/5 The Ronald McDonald Dental Caremobile will be coming to Westgate in late August or early September and will be providing students in grades 2-6 with free dental care. A permission slip was sent home that will need to filled out and returned for all children the want to participate. • • • • • Parent Collaboration night is 9/8. Free dinner and child care will be available. The staff would like to use the RAZ Kids reading app again this year, it will cost $950. Community Club will sponsor the app. The Dreambox subscription will not be renewed. The district and building PBIS team did a week long training session this summer and are continuing to meet monthly throughout the year. The team is working on reinforcing the Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible expectations. Expectation stations were used to show the kids what the expectations were in nine different areas of the building. The new traffic pattern has been working well so far. The lane on east side of the building is now open to only bus and van traffic during arrival and dismissal and is one way from south to north. New signage has been ordered and should be installed soon. Treasurer’s Report • The current balance is $8,741.87, see attached treasurer’s report. Old Business • • Back-to-School night was a success. There were more than 300 meals served and more than $280 in donations. There was a lot of positive feedback on the Westgate water bottles, the water bottles will continue to be sold at school events for $3/bottle. New Business • • • Savings Sidekick kick-off on 8/29 o Coupon books cost $20, Community Club gets $10 of each book sold. o Savings Sidekick funds all prizes themselves, the cost does not come out of WCC profits. o Volunteers are needed to help get the packets ready, 8/26 @5pm in the Library. o Students to return order forms by 8/7 o Orders will be fulfilled on 8/13 before the Community Club meeting, starting at 5:30 in the Library. Other ways to help Community Club: o Collect Box Tops o Collect Campbell’s Soup Labels o TAGG your purchases at participating stores and restaurants, a portion of your purchase will be donated to WCC: http://www.togetheragreatergood.com/ o Registers you credit cards with Proseeds, every time you use your card a participating locations a portion of you purchase will be donated to WCC: https://www.giveproseeds.com/ Fall Events o Parent Collaboration Night 9/8 o Trunk-or-Treat 10/27 • o Fall Parties 10/28 o Pizza Bingo 11/18 WCC asked Mrs. Moon and Mr. Elliott to come up with some building goals as they relate to WCC (ie: what specific needs can we help fundraise for). Two items right away were soccer goals and funding for the Student Enrichment Clusters. Action Items • • • Mrs. Moon and Mr. Elliott will come up with additional building goals before the next WCC meeting. Tara to contact the West Hills Baptist Church and Kelly to contact Amanda English at Pipal Park Community Center to see if they’d like to partner with us on Trunk-or Treat. LeAnn to contact Hy-Vee to check into our reimbursement from last year’s fundraiser. End of WCC Meeting PAC Meeting • • • • • The group went over what the “We Can, We Will” motto means to us as parents. The new positive self-talk model that is being used in the classroom each day was discussed. Parent Collaboration night goals were discussed. The new specials schedule was discussed, the four specials are now PE, Music, Art, and Library and the schedule will rotate every four days. Once every two weeks the students will have inclassroom guidance. Preliminary NeSA testing will be shared during the September meeting.
