Platelet Rich Plasma Wound Healing
Treatment

Introduction
Why am I having this treatment?
This patient leaflet will explain what will
happen when you come to hospital for your
wound treatment. It is important that you
understand the process and take an active
role in your treatment.
Platelet rich plasma, (PRP) is a new
treatment used to encourage wounds to the
skin to heal quicker. By taking the healing
products found in patients own blood and
placing them directly into the wound we can
accelerate the healing process.

the blood to separate the different types of
blood cells. The nurse will extract the
platelet rich part of the blood and apply it to
your wound by mixing with a gelling agent
to keep it in place in the wound cavity. The
wound will then be dressed to protect the
platelet gel.
Title
What is PRP?
Platelet rich plasma, (PRP) is the plasma
part of blood with concentrated platelets. The
platelets are there to help the body repair
itself. The concentrated platelets found in
PRP contain growth factors that are vital to
initiating and accelerating tissue repair and
regeneration by stimulating the healing
process.
