Year 5 Topic Home Learning – Ancient Greece
You need to complete 2 home learning pieces (1 must be from each section).

Remember you should be proud of the home learning you have completed; we know what you are
capable of so make sure you complete it to a high standard.
Reading, Research and Writing
Greek Myths- The Ancient Greeks invented stories to account for the things that went on in
their lives. Research one of the Greek Myths and create a story book of this Myth, suitable for
Year 1 children. You will need to remember to make the words easy to understand and include
lots of pictures for them to enjoy!
Tour Guide- Imagine you are working for the Greek Tourism Board. You have been asked to
design a brochure to attract visitors to the country. Include a mixture of text and images,
remembering to make it eye catching!
Famous Greeks- some of the most famous Ancient Greeks include Plato, Aristotle,
Parmenides, Archimedes, Pythagoras and Alexander the Great. Research one of these men
and write a detailed biography/ fact file about them, their life and what they did which made
them famous. You may present this in anyway in wish- be creative!
The Daily Greek: research and write a newspaper report about a major event in Ancient
Greece.
Greek Pioneers- the Ancient Greeks invented/discovered many things. Research some of
their discoveries and create a poster about these and how they influence our lives today.
Athens and Sparta- research these two city States and create a comparison table/poster
between the two.
Creative Tasks
Greek Theatre: the Greeks loved singing and dancing and were famous for the large open air
theatres called amphitheatres. Research what these were like and then build your own model
of them. Be creative!
Food Glorious Food: find a recipe for Greek food or a meal and have a go at making it (with
adult help). Write a review of how successful your recipe was, include pictures of your dish. If
you choose this option please plan to make and bring it in on the 18th October (which
will be our Greek day!)
Greek Plays: write a script for a short Ancient Greek play, using up to 4 characters.
Parthenon: research what this was and make your own model of it.
Masks: make a Greek theatre mask.
Stamps: design 5 different postage stamps for a series of Greek myths.
Monsters: The myths and legends of ancient Greece include various strange creatures and
monsters partly based on real animals that existed. Invent your own monster – this can be
made out of junk materials, clay, card or collage.
Column Collage: produce a collage of the two types of Greek columns: Ionic and Doric.
