Sometimes quadratic expressions have an "a" value that is not 1 nor is there a GCF that can be factored from the expression. This method can be used to factor some polynomials...
1.
Multiply "a" and "c" together
2.
Find the factor pair that adds to be "b"
3.
Create a box and fill in the ax2 and c terms
4.
Fill in the x terms with the values from step 2
5.
Find the sides of the box by factoring out the GCF of the rows and columns
6.
The linear binomials on the sides are the factors, rewrite them as a product for the final factored answer
